Description
The Zebra Midge is a classic, year-round subsurface fly that imitates midge larvae—a critical food source for trout in rivers and stillwaters alike. Most effective in tailwaters and spring creeks, it excels during winter months or low-water conditions when small, subtle presentations are key. Fished best as part of a double-nymph rig or below a dry fly in a dropper setup, the Zebra Midge gets down quickly thanks to its slim profile and tungsten bead. Available in sizes as small as 20–22, it’s ideal for picky trout in pressured or clear-water fisheries. Black with silver ribbing is the most common and effective color combination, but red, olive, and brown variations also have their time and place.
