Description

Umpqua’s new Deceiver HD Pink Big Game Fluorocarbon Tippet offers all the advantages of a premium fluorocarbon but goes a step beyond when it comes to sub surface invisibility. Red is the first color in the water column to disappear and pink is the lightest shade of red making it fall out the quickest.

In addition, when standard fluorocarbon gets abraded or nicked the defect illuminates clearly underwater, the unique pink additive greatly reduces this problem adding to the invisibility.

When presentation is paramount and you need to have the edge, think Pink with Umpqua’s all new Pink Big Game Fluorocarbon.

Tippet available in 8lb-40lb.

Features

•    Three-Layer Fluorocarbon Construction — Layered build provides more consistent knot strength and abrasion resistance at knot junctions than standard single-layer fluorocarbon extrusion.
•    High Abrasion Resistance — Performs in demanding environments including coral, rocks, mangroves, and contact with the rough mouths of inshore and big-game species.
•    Stiff Formula for Fly Turnover — Stiffer than standard fluorocarbon at equivalent strengths; helps turn over large, air-resistant saltwater flies in wind.
•    9 Sizes: 8–40 lb — Covers light bonefish class tippet through heavy tarpon shock tippet and custom leader butt sections.
•    Pink Tint — Pink tint disappears faster underwater than standard clear fluorocarbon and masks abrasion defects on the leader surface.
•    25-Yard Spools — All sizes on 25-yard spools with a silicone band to prevent unwinding; spools click together for convenient storage.
•    Compatible with Deceiver HD Leaders — Same material construction as the Deceiver HD leader series for consistent properties throughout the full leader system.

FAQ

What is the three-layer construction?
Umpqua’s Deceiver HD uses a three-layer fluorocarbon construction rather than the single-layer extrusion process used by most fluorocarbon tippets. The layered design is intended to improve knot strength by providing a more consistent and abrasion-resistant surface at the knot junction, and to maintain structural integrity when the tippet is stressed against coral, rocks, mangroves, or rough-mouthed fish. This is the same construction used in the Deceiver HD leaders.

What is the difference between Clear and Pink?
The Clear version is standard Deceiver HD fluorocarbon. The Pink version uses the same three-layer construction with a pink tint that exploits the physics of light absorption underwater: red wavelengths (and pink, the lightest shade of red) disappear faster in the water column than standard clear fluorocarbon, making the material effectively invisible at shallower depths. The pink tint also masks abrasion defects — nicks and scrapes that would be visible on standard clear fluorocarbon become less detectable. For most fishing, the difference is modest. For wary fish in very clear, shallow water, some anglers find the pink version produces more takes.

Can I use the 25–40 lb sizes for tarpon shock tippet?
Yes. The 25, 30, 35, and 40 lb sizes work as shock tippet material for tarpon. Keep the shock section to 12 inches or less for IGFA record eligibility. The three-layer construction’s abrasion resistance is particularly relevant for tarpon shock material, which takes direct contact with the tarpon’s rough gill plates during a fight.
