The feather charatceristics include long, supple feathers and dense barbs which makes for easier tying and better final results. Saddle feathers are lng enough to allow a few flies to be tied with each feather.The grading system has to do with the numbers of feathers per pelt, so the higher the grade...the more feathers. . The 1/2 Sadde is just what it sounds like...a full saddle cut in 1/2. These are good choices for the serious fly tyer that wants to be able to tie a lot of flies in a few size ranges...generally in the #12-16 range
