During this time, there are large numbers of resident permit, bonefish, and snook around that receive low pressure from visiting anglers. Snook fishing reaches its peak during the fall and early winter months. Anglers also have a chance to catch the tail end of the larger migratory tarpon season, a bonus to any trip.

The Yucatan is typically easy to travel to from most major U.S. cities, with many direct flights going into Cancun. Oftentimes flights are reasonably priced, which helps to keep overall costs low. The Yucatan offers affordable lodging and fishing packages during the late summer and fall seasons. Coupled with quick flights and transfers, this is a great bang for the buck for any traveling angler.
3. Availability at Some of the Best Fishing Lodges
This season Yellow Dog has numerous Yucatan destinations that are offering some great summer specials that extend into the fall such as Costa de Cocos, Pesca Maya, Grand Slam Lodge, and X-Flats. Overall, the off-season rates are lower, and the crowds are minimal.
4. Consistent Year-Round Temperatures
The Yucatan is a tropical environment, and the temperature variance with its proximity to the equator only fluctuates 4 or 5 degrees throughout the year. In fact, Montana has warmer weather during the summer months – the temperatures can top 100 degrees on some fisheries during July and August! That doesn’t happen in Mexico. In the summer months, the highs typically hover in the upper 80s, so any time of the year is a great time to be there.
5. Species Diversity
There is an abundant variety of fish species in the Yucatan Peninsula, making this destination appealing to both novice and expert anglers. There are bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook, barracuda, jacks, and an assortment of other species to target with a fly.
