Give Back to the Yellowstone River Clean Up Recap

May 03, 23

On Saturday, August 20th, a coalition of non-profit and community organizations and local businesses came together to conduct a clean-up of the Yellowstone River after the historic flooding earlier in the year. The Yellow Dog Community and Conservation Foundation, Montana Freshwater Partners, Montana Trout Unlimited, and Park County Environmental Council led the effort with several additional sponsors, including Upper Yellowstone Watershed Group, AFFTA Fisheries Fund, Ten and Two Co, Neptune’s Brewing, Sweetwater Fly Shop, Montana Classic Boat Tours, Skwala Fishing Gear, Outdoor Guide Association, Restoration Engineering and Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures. The event could not have happened without the support of the City of Livingston, who donated the use of Miles Park.

It was a beautiful day to unite the community in support of the river. Over 20 boats participated, along with over 60 individuals collectively floating and walking the banks at stretches ranging from Gardiner to downstream of Livingston. A 30 cubic yard container donated by Park County was placed in the park and, over the course of the afternoon, almost filled to capacity by returning boats and walk-ins. All total, the County reported that the effort removed 2.3 tons of trash from the river.

The afternoon concluded with food from Chef’s Table, beer from Neptune’s Brewery, and live music from the West of Wayland band.

Plans are underway to repeat the clean-up next season.
