Taimen Flies

Taimen are massive, aggressive salmonids native to Mongolia and Siberia. Flies for taimen need to be extremely large, durable, and tied on reinforced hooks to withstand crushing strikes and long fights.

Most taimen flies range from 6–12 inches long, tied on hooks up to 6/0. They are significantly larger than trout flies, with bulk and profile being key to attracting attention in big rivers.

Popular patterns include large articulated streamers, deceiver-style baitfish, and topwater mouse patterns. Foam and deer-hair mice are especially effective, as taimen are famous for smashing surface flies with explosive takes.
