Trip Overview
Fish Partner’s Battle Hill Lodge offers anglers exclusive access to some of Iceland’s most storied and productive sea-trout waters. Located in the scenic Skaftafellssysla region, this historic farm-turned-lodge sits within view of glacial rivers, lava fields, and Europe’s largest icecap, Vatnajökull. Anglers here can pursue giant native sea-run brown trout in three distinct rivers—Vatnamót, Fossálar, and Geirlandsá—each offering unique landscapes and opportunities. With a rich Viking history and access to newly opened private waters, Battle Hill Lodge delivers an immersive angling experience in one of Iceland’s most dramatic natural settings.

Lodging Details
Battle Hill Lodge is a renovated farmhouse with a rustic-modern aesthetic, accommodating up to 10 guests. The lodge has four twin rooms and two single rooms spread over two floors, with two and a half shared bathrooms. Nestled in a quiet, remote location yet easily accessible, the lodge offers stunning views of the Bruna Hraun lava field, Vatnajökull glacier, and nearby cliffs, making it a peaceful retreat surrounded by history and wilderness.

Food and Beverages
Guests enjoy full board, including a light lunch upon arrival, daily packed streamside lunches, and hearty dinners. Meals are served family-style and emphasize fresh ingredients and local flavors. A selection of alcoholic beverages may be available for purchase at the lodge.

Typical Length of Stay
The standard package is a six-day trip beginning and ending with half-days of fishing.

Non-Angling Activities and Options
Battle Hill is an angler-focused lodge, with ample opportunities to enjoy photography, sight seeing, and hiking during each fishing day. 

Internet / Communications
Wi-Fi is available at the lodge, although connectivity may be limited due to the remote location.

How to Get There
Guests fly into Keflavík International Airport (KEF) and transfer to Reykjavík. Fish Partner provides ground transportation from Reykjavík to Battle Hill Lodge—approximately a four-hour scenic drive through southern Iceland.

Arrival and Departure Details / Times
Pick-up from Reykjavík occurs at 10:00 a.m. on Day 1, with arrival at the lodge around 2:00 p.m. Guests fish that afternoon. On Day 7, guests fish the morning session, enjoy lunch, and depart for Reykjavík around 2:00 p.m.

Documents Required
Valid passport (with at least 3 months validity). No visa is required for most travelers visiting Iceland for under 90 days.

General Information
The Battle Hill program grants anglers access to three of Iceland’s premier sea-trout fisheries—all tributaries of the glacial Skaftá River: Vatnamót, Fossálar, and Geirlandsá. These rivers are newly opened to international anglers and feature varied environments—from cascading waterfalls and black sand flats to lava field spring creeks. Sea-run brown trout are the primary target, with additional opportunities for Atlantic salmon and Arctic char. Catch-and-release is mandatory.

Vatnamót River – Known for producing Iceland’s largest sea-trout (20+ lbs possible), this junction fishery demands exploration and adaptation as conditions shift.

Geirlandsá River – A scenic and productive river with waterfalls, deep canyons, and gravel-bottomed runs. Salmon are also present.

Fossálar River – Visually spectacular and geologically unique, this challenging river is loved by guides for its variety and beauty.

Seasons
Fall Season: Mid-August – October 20
The peak of the sea-trout run, when fish are fresh and aggressive.

Spring Season: Mid-April – Mid-May
A unique opportunity to target overwintered sea trout in great condition. Fishing focuses on Vatnamót and Geirlandsá.

Equipment
Fishing is done with both single-handed (6–8 wt) and double-handed (7–9 wt) rods. Anglers should bring multiple line types—floating, intermediate, and sink-tip setups—to adapt to varying water conditions. Fly selection should include black ghosts, rubber-legged nymphs, small tubes, and streamers. Strong hooks and leaders (12–20 lb) are essential.

Remember that Yellow Dog’s services are completely free! When you book a trip with Yellow Dog, you never pay more than when you book directly with the lodge or outfitter.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
For all Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures, L.L.C. (YDFA) itineraries booked with Fish Partner, both deposits and final payments are non-refundable. If a canceled package is resold, a refund will be issued minus a $100.00 per person cancellation fee. Clients may transfer a reservation to another angler. Rates are subject to change for future seasons. Full payment is due 90 days prior to the trip. Yellow Dog strongly recommends purchasing travel insurance.

Payment Terms for All Yellow Dog Trip Bookings  
Unless otherwise noted on your invoice, for all trips less than 90 days out, full payment is required after receipt of the confirmation email to secure guides and reservations. For trips outside of 90 days, a 50% deposit is required upon receipt of confirmation email to confirm your reservations.
