Description
Craft Fur is one of the most versatile synthetic materials in a fly tyer’s kit, known for its long, mobile fibers and soft texture that move naturally in the water. Sold in patches that are approximately 5x5 inches, craft fur provides consistent length and density, making it ideal for patterns that call for flowing, lifelike movement. Unlike many natural materials, craft fur does not absorb much water, allowing for easier casting and less fatigue when working with larger flies.
Adds depth, volume, and is naturally tapered, with fibers 3-4 inches long. Tie it in as is, or strip out the underfibers and incorporate into a dubbing loop to build a nice head on baitfish patterns and streamers. The underfibers are approximately 2 inches long and can be utilized for additional flies.
Best Uses:
- Saltwater Patterns: Commonly used in bonefish, tarpon, and redfish flies in shrimp and baitfish imitations. It is a must have for staple patterns like the Gotcha or Kwan.
- Streamer Wings & Tails: Craft fur’s supple action mimics the swimming motion of baitfish, sculpins, and leeches, making it a go-to for trout and freshwater predator streamers.
