Description
The Dakota 45" Rod & Reel Case is Fishpond's answer for anglers running longer switch and spey rods that won't fit in a standard travel case. Built for rods up to 13'6", it holds up to four rods in their socks in a padded, lidded compartment, with adjustable, removable interior dividers keeping reels organized and protected separately.
A signature waterproof, molded bottom protects against wet docks, boat ramps, and rain from below, while three mesh interior pockets and a single exterior zippered pocket keep smaller essentials -- keys, a phone, tickets -- organized and accessible. Unlike Fishpond's smaller Dakota Carry-On case, this is built to travel as checked luggage rather than a carry-on, matching its size to the longer rods it's designed to protect.

FAQ
Who is this case built for?
The Dakota 45" Rod & Reel Case is built for anglers running switch and spey rods up to 13'6" -- longer, two-handed setups that won't fit in a standard 9'-rod travel case. It holds up to four rods in their socks along with matching reels, making it a dedicated transport case for anglers heading to steelhead or salmon water where longer rods are the norm.
Will this work as an airline carry-on?
Technically, no -- at 45" long, this case is well beyond standard airline carry-on dimensions, and Fishpond doesn't market it for carry-on use the way they do their separate, smaller Dakota Carry-On Rod & Reel Case. Plan to check this case, and confirm your airline's oversize-baggage policy and fees ahead of time, since a 45" case will often exceed standard checked-bag linear-size allowances. Your ability to carry on will largely come down to airline, as well as overhead availability.
Is it waterproof?
Like the Carry-On version, this case has a signature waterproof, molded bottom that protects against wet ground and puddles during transfers or in the field. Fishpond doesn't describe the full case as fully waterproof or submersible, so treat the bottom's waterproofing as targeted protection rather than a full-immersion guarantee.
