Lodging Details

Our operators on Los Roques partner with Acuarela Lodge for all accommodations on the island of Gran Roque, the small village that serves as the hub of the Los Roques archipelago. Acuarela is an Italian-owned boutique lodge that first established operations in the late 1990s and has since become one of the most well-known and comfortable guest properties in the islands. The lodge combines the relaxed feel of a traditional Caribbean posada with thoughtful European design, creating an inviting and cozy base for anglers spending their days exploring the surrounding flats.
The lodge features eleven spacious guest rooms, each with a private bathroom, air conditioning, hot water, Wi-Fi, and in-room safes. Rooms are comfortably appointed with teak furnishings, natural textures, and bright Caribbean colors that reflect the surrounding islands. Some of the rooms offer balconies or views across the village rooftops and toward the nearby sea. The common areas are designed to encourage relaxation and socializing, with open lounge spaces, shaded seating areas, and lush tropical vegetation woven throughout the property.
Acuarela is built across two levels with an expansive rooftop terrace, which is one of the most popular gathering spots in the evenings. From here, guests enjoy panoramic views of the Caribbean, the nearby cays, and the constant breeze that keeps the island comfortable year-round. The terrace is often used for cocktails, relaxed dinners, or simply unwinding after a day on the water while watching the sun set over the archipelago. The property itself sits in a quiet and breezy part of Gran Roque, just a five-minute walk from the small island airstrip and roughly one minute from the beachfront where each fishing day begins. Boats depart directly from the nearby shoreline each morning, making the daily logistics simple and efficient. The lodge provides room and beach towels, daily housekeeping service, and laundry service is available upon request.

About Gran Roque Village
Gran Roque is the only permanently inhabited island in the Los Roques archipelago and serves as the base of operations and the gateway to the surrounding national park. The village is small, charming, and wonderfully laid-back, with sandy streets, brightly colored homes, small guesthouses, and a handful of restaurants and local shops scattered along the waterfront. With no cars on the island, transportation is entirely by foot, and the relaxed rhythm of daily life revolves around fishing, small boats, and the steady flow of anglers and travelers arriving to explore the surrounding flats and islands.
Despite its remote setting, Gran Roque has developed a reputation as one of the most unique and enjoyable fishing villages in the Caribbean. In the evenings, anglers often gather along the waterfront or climb the short trail to the lighthouse overlooking the harbor for sunset views across the archipelago. The village atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, with local fishermen, lodge guests, and guides all sharing the same small streets and beaches. For visiting anglers, Gran Roque offers the perfect blend of remote island charm, simple comforts, and direct access to one of the most expansive and productive flats fisheries in the Caribbean.
Food and Beverages

Meals at the lodge are thoughtfully prepared and designed with anglers in mind. Breakfast is served each morning before fishing and typically includes fresh fruit, eggs, juices, yogurt, and other hot options to start the day. Anglers are then provided with packed lunches to take on the water, allowing for a full day of fishing on the flats. After returning from the water each afternoon, guests can relax with drinks and light snacks before dinner. Evening meals are served in the lodge dining area and typically feature multi course dinners centered around fresh local seafood and Caribbean inspired cuisine. Service is attentive and relaxed, and the overall dining experience is an enjoyable part of the stay. The lodge also offers a full bar with a selection of beer, wine, and cocktails.
Typical Length of Stay

While custom trips of varying lengths can at times be arranged, week-long programs (seven nights / six fishing days) are the most common packages on Los Roques. All trip to Los Roques do require an overnight in La Guiara on the mainland on arrival into Venezuela, with the included charter flight to the islands the following morning.
Internet / Communications

The lodge offers Starlink internet service. GSM mobile coverage is available in the area, although guests should confirm compatibility with their home carrier prior to travel.
How to Get There

Los Roques lies approximately 120 km north of Caracas and is accessed via a 35-minute direct domestic flight from La Guaira National Terminal (adjacent to the international airport). Yellow Dog coordinates all domestic flights and recommends aligning international and domestic schedules carefully due to limited daily departures.
Arrival and Departure Details / Times

Your trip begins with an international flight to SimĂłn BolĂvar International Airport (CCS) in La Guaira, located approximately 35 minutes outside of Caracas. After clearing immigration and customs, an program representative will meet you in the arrivals area and assist with your transfers. Most anglers spend the first night in a secure business hotel near the airport due to the fact that most international flights to Venezuela arrive in the afternoon or evening. Upon arrival, guests are then transferred directly to either the Marriott Hotel or the Eurobuilding Express Hotel. Both are located only a few minutes from the main airport terminals. The program representative escorts you every step of the way – from the moment you arrive until check-in at the hotel. Your hotel reservation will be arranged in advance, and check-in is handled directly at the hotel.
Flights to Los Roques depart from the national terminal at Caracas airport. The flight to Gran Roque is short, typically around 35 to 40 minutes, and offers spectacular views of the Caribbean as you approach the archipelago. The same transfer service and agent that met you on arrival the day before will pick you up at the hotel the next morning and assist with airport check-in and luggage prior to departure. Due to the small aircraft used on this route, luggage allowances are limited, and excess baggage may incur additional charges.
Upon landing on Gran Roque, lodge staff will meet you at the airstrip. Guests will pay the Los Roques National Park entrance fee upon arrival before transferring to the lodge. The lodge is located just minutes from the airport and the beach where each day of fishing begins. If arrival times allow, anglers can often get set up and head out fishing shortly after arriving.
Documents Required

U.S. citizens traveling to Venezuela must have a valid U.S. passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date of arrival and contains blank pages for entry and exit stamps. A Venezuelan tourist visa will likely be required for U.S. travelers (obtained prior to departure) although there is a very good chance this will change or be eliminated altogether as things continue to open. Visas are currently not issued upon arrival, so for now, travelers must secure the proper documentation before traveling to Venezuela. Visitors may also be asked to provide proof of onward or return travel as well as confirmation of lodging or travel arrangements during their stay. For those traveling to Los Roques, guests will be required to pay the Los Roques National Park entrance fee upon arrival at the small airport on Gran Roque and is subject to change.

General Information
Few fisheries in the Caribbean offer the scale, solitude, and diversity of Los Roques. With hundreds of islands and miles of protected flats, anglers enjoy vast areas of shallow water that see remarkably little fishing pressure. Firm white-sand flats make Los Roques one of the best wade fishing destinations anywhere, and the sheer size of the archipelago allows guides to spread anglers across an enormous amount of water each day.

This is a fishery that is widely regarded as one of the top bonefishing destinations in the world – and one that is especially appealing for anglers who enjoy wade fishing. The archipelago features miles of firm, walkable flats and remarkably healthy bonefish populations, offering both consistent numbers and excellent opportunities for larger fish. Many days are spent stalking tailing bonefish across classic pancake flats, while at other times anglers walk beaches and shallow lagoons searching for cruising fish moving in pairs or small schools. Catching 10 to 20 bonefish in a day is not uncommon, with fish averaging around four pounds and larger specimens encountered regularly. While bonefish are the primary focus, anglers should also be prepared for shots at barracuda, permit, tarpon, parrotfish, jacks, and more. For anglers who enjoy covering water on foot and sight casting to fish, Los Roques is truly a wade fisherman’s paradise.
Located just 12 degrees north of the equator, Los Roques is a reliable year-round destination. Water and air temperatures remain stable throughout the year, tides fluctuate on a moderate basis, and the region is generally protected from the cold fronts that affect many northern Caribbean fisheries. The archipelago also sits outside the traditional hurricane track, making it one of the more consistent and dependable saltwater fisheries in the Caribbean.
Located off the main coast of Venezuela roughly 120 kilometers north of Caracas, the archipelago is protected as a National Park and includes more than 350 islands and cays surrounded by expansive flats, coral reefs, and shallow lagoons. With more than 20 years of experience, our Los Roques operator has created a program built on deep local knowledge of the fishery and the surrounding waters. Their experienced team of local guides and captains delivers a highly organized and professional daily fishing program that can accommodate anglers of all skill levels.
While bonefish are the primary target, Los Roques offers opportunities for a wide variety of other saltwater species including bonefish, permit, tarpon, barracuda, jacks, triggerfish, parrotfish, and more. Anglers can focus exclusively on bonefish or mix in opportunities for other species depending on conditions and personal preference.
Typical Fishing Day

A typical day begins early with a full breakfast at the lodge anglers depart on foot for the short, one-minute walk to the beach where the boats and guides will be waiting. Most fishing areas are located within a 10-to-25-minute run from Gran Roque. Anglers typically spend the majority of the day wading expansive flats while the guide and captain reposition the boat throughout the day. After a focused morning session, lunch is enjoyed on the water or on the beach before anglers continue with the afternoon fishing session. Most guests return to the lodge in the late afternoon with time to relax, enjoy cocktails, and share stories before a full sit-down dinner. Most of the prime fishing areas are fairly close to the lodge, and many of the most productive flats are located just 10 to 20 minutes away. The furthest areas are typically a 30-to-40-minute run, while most daily runs average around 15 to 25 minutes.
Boats and Equipment

Our Los Roques outfitter utilizes 28-foot fiberglass pangas designed specifically for the Los Roques fishery. All boats are powered by Yamaha four stroke 100 HP engines. Each boat is crewed by both a guide and a boat captain and accommodates one to two anglers – a system that helps maximize fishing time and efficiency on the water. This two-person crew allows the captain to position anglers and their guide across a wide variety of flats and shoreline environments throughout the day. In many cases, anglers are dropped on one side of a flat and picked up on the other, eliminating unnecessary backtracking and allowing the team to take full advantage of wind, current, tides, and sunlight.

For fishing equipment, flies, and terminal tackle, anglers should plan on bringing 100% of what will be needed for their week on Los Roques. There is nothing available on the island, so plan on having what you will need for all fishing scenarios and situations. Yellow Dog will provide detailed gear and packing lists for Los Roques, and all relevant equipment (including fly assortments) are available through the Yellow Dog Fly Shop.

Secure Your Place for One of the Most Legendary
Flats Fisheries in the Caribbean
For decades, anglers in the know quietly regarded Los Roques as one of the finest bonefishing destinations anywhere in the world. Vast wadeable flats, enormous areas of protected water, and healthy populations of large bonefish made this remote Caribbean archipelago a legendary destination for saltwater fly anglers.
Then, beginning in 2019, travel restrictions between the United States and Venezuela effectively closed the door for American anglers.
The fishery itself never stopped operating. International anglers from Europe and South America continued to fish the flats, the guides stayed on the water, and the lodge remained active — but for U.S. anglers, Los Roques largely disappeared from the conversation.
Now, travel conditions appear to be improving, and the expectation is that U.S. anglers will once again be able to visit Los Roques in the near future. To prepare for that reopening, Yellow Dog Flyfishing is launching a special program designed to allow anglers to secure future dates now — with complete peace of mind.
The “Return to Los Roques” Early Access Program
Anticipating that things will soon open and normalize for U.S. anglers wanting to fish Los Roques, Yellow Dog is excited to offer a limited number of advance reservations and prime weeks for the 2027 season – an opportunity that allows anglers to secure dates now before travel officially reopens.
This program is designed to give anglers priority access to one of the Caribbean’s most iconic fisheries while eliminating the financial risk normally associated with booking travel to a destination that is still in the process of reopening. And, while the fishery has been in continuous operation for international anglers, for nearly seven years it has seen little pressure from the American flyfishing market.
Limited Early Access Availability
This program is being offered on a limited basis in partnership with our long-time Los Roques outfitter, and Yellow Dog is initially offering a limited block of 10-12 weeks of fishing for the 2027 season under this program. Early reservations will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis for the 2027 season.
How the Program Works
Step 1 – Secure Your Dates

A 25% deposit is required to hold and reserve your preferred 2027 travel dates. Unlike standard bookings, your deposit is held securely by Yellow Dog and is not transferred to the lodge until travel is confirmed.
Step 2 – When Travel Reopens

Once travel access for U.S. anglers is confirmed and operating normally, a second 25% deposit will be due, bringing the total deposit to 50% of the trip cost. (This mirrors the standard deposit policy for Los Roques programs.)
Step 3 – Final Balance

The remaining 50% balance will be due 90 days prior to the start of your trip, as with all standard Yellow Dog travel bookings.
The Yellow Dog “Peace-of-Mind Guarantee”
This program is designed specifically to eliminate the uncertainty surrounding future travel. If Los Roques is not open to U.S. anglers by your scheduled 2027 trip dates, Yellow Dog will provide:
- Option 1 — Full Refund. Receive 100% of your deposit returned in full
- Option 2 — Full Travel Credit. Apply 100% of your deposit toward any other Yellow Dog destination worldwide
- No penalties. No administrative fees. No risk.
- Your deposit remains protected with Yellow Dog holding all funds until travel access is confirmed.
Reserve Your Dates
If you are interested in participating in the Return to Los Roques Early Access Program, please contact Yellow Dog Flyfishing. Our travel team will be happy to discuss available dates, travel expectations, and the latest updates regarding access to Venezuela.
Why Book Now?
When travel to Los Roques fully reopens for U.S. anglers, demand is expected to be extremely strong.
For many anglers, Los Roques represents one of the last great classic Caribbean bonefish destinations — a vast national park with hundreds of islands, enormous wadeable flats, and remarkably healthy fish populations. Many anglers who experienced Los Roques before 2019 still describe it as one of the best bonefishing destinations they have ever fished.
By reserving early, anglers can:
- Secure prime dates before the destination becomes widely available again
- Lock in access to one of the Caribbean’s most unique flats fisheries
- Enjoy a completely risk-free booking process backed by Yellow Dog

Specific Terms and Conditions for All Los Roques Trip Packages
For standard trip bookings, a 50% deposit is required to confirm all reservations and must be received within 14 business days of booking confirmation. The remaining balance and full payment is due 90 days prior to arrival. All payments must be made in U.S. Dollars (USD). Trip prices may include services provided by third parties such as domestic airlines, transfers, or other logistical providers. Because of this, and due to potential changes in taxes, fuel surcharges, or government-imposed fees, prices may be subject to adjustment prior to arrival if external costs change.
All cancellations or reservation changes must be submitted in writing. Deposits are refundable (minus a 10% cancellation penalty) if written notice is received more than 120 days prior to arrival. Alternatively, the full deposit may be applied as a credit toward a future trip booked within one year of the original reservation date, subject to availability. For cancellations made between 61 and 120 days prior to arrival, 50% of the total trip cost will be forfeited, while the remaining 50% may either be refunded or applied to a future trip within one year of the original reservation date. For cancellations made 60 days or less prior to arrival, no refunds or credits are provided. However, if a suitable replacement guest is found for the same dates, the reservation may be transferred, typically minus a 10% administrative penalty. Please note that payments already made to third-party providers (such as local airlines) may be deducted from refunds or charged to replacement guests unless those providers issue their own credit.
Fly Fishing Los Roques reserves the right to modify itineraries or travel arrangements when necessary, due to weather, transportation schedules, safety considerations, government regulations, or other circumstances beyond its control. No refunds will be issued for unused portions of a trip, no-shows, travel delays, or interruptions resulting from events such as weather, force majeure, airline schedule changes, civil disturbances, strikes, quarantine requirements, theft, or other factors outside the operator’s control. In the unlikely event that Fly Fishing Los Roques must cancel a confirmed reservation, all payments received will either be refunded or credited toward a future trip.
Guests are strongly encouraged to purchase comprehensive travel insurance, including coverage for trip cancellation, interruption, delays, lost baggage, medical expenses, and medical evacuation. “Cancel For Any Reason” coverage is specifically recommended to protect against unforeseen circumstances such as illness, family emergencies, weather disruptions, or work obligations. Fly Fishing Los Roques and Yellow Dog Flyfishing cannot act as an insurance provider and cannot assume financial responsibility for cancellations or interruptions that are not covered by the policies outlined above.
Flyfishing travel and outdoor activities inherently involve certain risks, including travel by boat, vehicle, aircraft, or on foot in remote environments. By confirming a reservation and submitting a deposit, guests acknowledge and accept these inherent risks associated with fishing and adventure travel. Fly Fishing Los Roques, its owners, employees, agents, and partners assume no responsibility for personal injury, illness, loss, or damage to personal property resulting from circumstances beyond their control, including transportation delays, weather events, government restrictions, or other unforeseen conditions. Personal belongings, including fishing equipment and luggage, remain the sole responsibility of the guest at all times.
Participation in a Fly Fishing Los Roques trip constitutes acknowledgment and acceptance of these policies and an agreement to release and hold harmless the operator and its partners from claims related to participation in these activities, except where otherwise required by applicable law.
