Created by California tier Mike Mercer, the Missing Link is a clever crossover pattern that blurs the lines between caddis, mayfly, and even spent spinner. Originally designed as a caddis imitation for tough fish on the Lower Sacramento, the Missing Link has proven deadly anywhere trout are feeding on small dries. Its hybrid design makes it an excellent “in-between” pattern when trout are rising but aren’t locked onto a single bug.

The Missing Link features a slender dubbed body ribbed for segmentation, a trailing shuck of sparse fibers to suggest an emerging insect, and an upright parachute-style hackle that adds floatation and a buggy footprint.
