At the core of the line is RIO’s DirectCore, a low stretch, ultra strong core that remains stiff enough to perform in tropical conditions while still being easy to straighten with a quick stretch. What are the parts of a fly line and what does each section do?
A weight-forward fly line has five sections:  Running Line: The thin, level back section that shoots through guides. The Elite GT’s running line is built on DirectCore for low stretch and consistent shooting behavior in tropical heat.  Rear Taper: The transition from running line to belly. The GT’s rear taper is deliberately short — consistent with its overall design philosophy of concentrating weight at the front for fast loading at close range.  Belly: The thickest, heaviest section and primary weight carrier. The Elite GT’s 36-foot head is extremely short compared to general-purpose saltwater lines. This front-loading puts maximum weight outside the rod tip with minimal line in the air, loading powerful 10–12 weight rods in one to two false casts.  Front Taper: The transition from belly to tip. The GT’s front taper is short and aggressive, designed specifically to drive energy into large, wind-resistant flies. Delicacy of presentation is not a design criterion for this line.  Tip: The final section where the leader connects. The Kevlar welded loop at the tip is reinforced to withstand the repeated mechanical stress of large flies, powerful hook sets, and contact with coral and rough structure.

What is the Kevlar welded loop and why does it matter for GT fishing?
Standard welded loops are made from the same material as the line itself — adequate for most fishing but vulnerable to abrasion from coral, rough rock edges, and the mechanical stress of repeated large-fly pickups and powerful strip sets. RIO updated the Elite GT with a Kevlar-reinforced front loop that is significantly more abrasion-resistant than a standard welded loop. GT fishing produces all the conditions that destroy standard loops: the line drags across coral during fights, the heavy flies are repeatedly picked up with force, and the strip sets on a GT’s hard mouth are among the most violent in fly fishing. Guides fishing Seychelles and Farquhar specifically note the Kevlar loop as the one factory loop they trust without replacing.

What leader setup should I use with the Elite GT?
The standard GT leader is a short, level section of heavy hard mono or fluorocarbon — typically 3–6 feet of 80–130 lb material connected directly to the fly line loop. This contrasts sharply with tapered leaders used for other species: the GT leader’s job is abrasion resistance and direct energy transfer for the hook set, not delicate presentation. Most Seychelles guides use a 4–5 foot level section of 100–130 lb hard mono (such as the Shilton Shock Leader) as a complete leader with no class tippet for non-record fishing. 

Which line size should I choose?
Match to your rod’s grain window. The 10 wt / 425gr is appropriate for fast-action 10-weight rods and situations where smaller GT flies or slightly longer shots are expected. The 11 wt / 465gr is the most widely used configuration among Seychelles guides — it represents the standard GT setup for most conditions and most fly sizes. The 12 wt / 510gr is for the heaviest fly applications, including large brush flies and big poppers, and for maximum rod-loading capability in demanding conditions.
