Thomas S. recently returned from his favorite destination in the world of fly fishing: Turneffe Flats Lodge. Read his thoughts below:
Did you find the trip booking process through Yellow Dog enjoyable and useful? If not, please share why.
- Booking process is easy and works well.
Were the Yellow Dog pre-trip planning packet(s) and travel itinerary you received for your trip helpful and accurate? If not, how could it be improved?
- Planning information is very useful and well done. Same with itinerary. Quite helpful to provide to family.
Did the lodging (rooms, dining area, social area, etc) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- Very much met expectations. This was my third trip and I love the facilities. I look forward to seeing the sun rise from the cabana.
Did the food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- Food was great. Salad for lunches was excellent and the tuna fish has become a favorite. Simple breakfast to order works perfectly for me. Dinners varied and I always cleaned my plate.
Do you have any comments or constructive feedback based on the service, friendliness, etc of the lodge staff?
- I got a welcome and hug from Karen when I arrived. It had been 10 years since my last trip but with an excellent memory and perhaps good notes she mentioned something about tha trip and the previous one 2 years before that. Staff knew after the first day that I drank hot tea with dinner (decaf) and hot tea (cafinated) with breakfast. Didn’t have to ask again. They brought it automatically.
I can’t think of anything to improve on.
Were you pleased with your guide(s) customer service, communication skills, professionalism, work ethic, and general fishing knowledge? If not, please share why.
- Fished with Daniel. Been there 32 years and it showed. We had very poor weather. Blew 20 to 25 mph all six days. Made for very difficult fishing. Many spots were just not fishable and getting to spots that were required rather rough and a bit wet trips. Daniel worked very hard to get us to those spots. His seamanship was extraordinary. This trip was my fishing partner’s first salt water trip and Daniel made sure it was successful.
What key piece(s) of gear, tackle, flies, soft goods, etc. made your trip successful?
- All of it.
What piece(s) of equipment would you not leave home without for this trip?
- I took everything I thought I might need including back ups for each piece of equipment. I will take it all next time.
Would you return to this destination? Please share why or why not.
- I have been to Turneffe Flats three times. It is my favorite destination. But I am getting too old to make many more trips and since I can’t afford more than one trip a year and there are some places I still want to visit I am not I will get an opportunity to return to Turneffe. It would be nice.
