The Christmas Island Triggerfish Invitational will debut in November 2026 as the first competitive fly-fishing event focused exclusively on triggerfish—one of flats fishing’s most technical and challenging species.
Hosted on Christmas Island (Kiritimati), the Invitational is presented in partnership with Christmas Island Lodge, Yellow Dog Flyfishing, and Travel Creel Hospitality. The event will bring together eight teams of two anglers for a week-long, invitation-only competition across one of the largest and most storied flats fisheries in the world.
All competitors and support staff will be accommodated at Christmas Island Lodge and its sister property, the Christmas Island Hotel, ensuring a seamless and immersive on-island experience. In addition to the angling competition, the Invitational will feature an elevated culinary component integrated throughout the week—designed to enhance the overall guest experience and further distinguish the event from traditional fly-fishing tournaments.

Beyond competition, the Christmas Island Triggerfish Invitational is rooted in community and stewardship. Christmas Island Lodge will donate 5% of net proceeds from the event to local projects benefiting the people of Kiritimati. These efforts support community initiatives, education, scientific research, and long-term sustainability on the atoll. The lodge is also a proud partner of the Yellow Dog Community & Conservation Foundation, reinforcing the event’s commitment to meaningful conservation and community impact.
The Christmas Island Triggerfish Invitational represents a new chapter in competitive fly fishing—one that blends technical angling, exceptional hospitality, and a strong sense of place.
