October 2026 Copal Tree Lodge Trip Recap

October 21, 26

Our good friend Walter Z. of Riversong Lodge had a phenomenal visit to southern Belize's Copal Tree Lodge!

Did you find the trip booking process through Yellow Dog enjoyable and useful? If not, please share why.
- The booking process was seamless as usual.

Were the Yellow Dog pre-trip planning packet(s) and travel itinerary you received for your trip helpful and accurate? If not, how could it be improved?
- Yes the pre trip planning was accurate and helpful.

Did the lodging (rooms, dining area, social area, etc) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- The lodge was amazing just as we remembered it from our previous trip.

Did the food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- Food at Copal Tree is always outstanding and this was no exception.

Do you have any comments or constructive feedback based on the service, friendliness, etc of the lodge staff?
- There are always some staff that stand out and we were pleased to see them again on our visit. Elon, Andres and the new bartender Omar. The lodge manager getting the staff together to celebrate our first permit caught was pretty special. The staff going out of their way to decorate our room for our 20th anniversary was also extremely special.

Were you pleased with your guide(s) customer service, communication skills, professionalism, work ethic, and general fishing knowledge? If not, please share why.
- Scully is without a doubt the best guide my wife and myself have ever fished with. He is patient, kind and offer's constructive criticism in a manner that people can relate to.

What key piece(s) of gear, tackle, flies, soft goods, etc. made your trip successful?
- I brought 7 rods, and 380 flies, and an assortment of tools and gear. One of the most important tools other than good rods and flies are pliers, polarized glasses and a buff to go along with your regular ultralight clothes. We always take at least 2 pairs of polarized glasses.

Would you return to this destination? Please share why or why not.
- We are already looking to set up our next trip at Copal Tree.

About the Lodge: Copal Tree Lodge is a high-end jungle resort property perfect for couples, families, and anglers looking to combine a fishing trip with exciting activities and first-class amenities. The permit-focused fishery surrounding Punta Gorda and the Port Honduras Marine Preserve consistently produces permit opportunities for anglers with some of the finest guides in Belize. For nonanglers, southern Belize offers diverse eco-tourism activities in a pristine setting and access to a wide variety of options that immerse guests in the jungle and natural environment: birding, snorkeling, hiking, and tours of the Copal Tree farm and Copalli Rum Distillery.
