Paradise For The Hardcore Permit Angler
The Belize Permit Club offers all the key requirements for the hardcore permit angler and focuses heavily on making sure that each angler is on the water during ideal tide timing. Conveniently located just south of the small fishing village of Hopkins, permit fanatic Wil Flack has built lodging and fishing operation to host anglers in the pursuit of saltwater’s holy grail species – the permit. Wil Flack and his team carry decades of knowledge onto the flats each along with the tools to find, target, and land permit throughout the fishery surrounding Hopkins, Belize. Our team has determined this area as one of the most productive in southern Belize for targeting tailing and feeding permit on the deck on the panga or wading. Rather than providing excessive luxury, the guides and staff focus their resources on spending maximum time on the water and providing comfortable lodging and home-cooked meals.
Belize Permit Club sits on the banks of the Sittee River minutes from the Caribbean Sea. Guests stay in comfortable rooms that are capable of hosting up to six anglers at a time. Basic but comfortable, they feature A/C, two beds, a private bath, and a shower with plenty of space for your gear. Each day guests will load into the boats a stone’s throw from the lodge. From the location of the dock, rooms, bar area, barbeque, and the horseshoe pit, the amenities are a testament to the fact that the lodge was built for one thing – providing anglers with a comfortable place to relax before another day on the water.
Food and Beverages
Meals are home-cooked and prepared in the main kitchen. Breakfast and lunch are usually taken in the boat each day, dinner is served in the dining area or outside to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The menu is a combination of fresh seafood, traditional Belizean cuisine which includes chicken, pork, rice and beans, fresh vegetables, and fantastic tortillas. Occasionally, guests can elect to go out to Hopkins for dinner.
The bar area at Belize Permit Club includes domestic beverages as part of the package, including ice-cold Belikins and cocktails. If you would like specific alcohol, please let us know in advance and Belize Permit Club will do their best to provide this alcohol for you at a nominal charge. If you want an 18-year-old single malt, pack it in your checked luggage.
Typical Length of Stay
Belize Permit Club accepts stays as short as four nights and three days of fishing. Trips of any length can be accommodated. Contact Yellow Dog for your customized itinerary.
Non-Angling Activities and Options
Belize Permit Club is focused on one thing, chasing permit.

Wi-Fi is available free of charge for lodge guests. Please bring your own laptop or PDA to access the internet. Depending on your service plan, some cell phones will also work in the Hopkins area.

For those wanting to focus specifically on permit on the fly, the waters of Southern Belize are arguably the finest in saltwater fishing. While other species are found throughout the area, it should be understood that the fishing in the Hopkins area and the South Water Caye Marine Reserve is focused completely on permit. This means that as a stand-alone trip, this trip may not be for everyone – unless of course, you’re someone who really wants shots at permit on the fly! There are hundreds of prime permit flats in the area, many less than thirty minutes from the lodge. This is permit fishing in the traditional sense – you are looking for fish on the flats and tailing fish in skinny water.
Boats and Equipment
The Belize Permit Club fishes from extremely light, custom 23-foot pangas. These boats are ideal for poling the flats and running over open water. All the boats have poling platforms and are designed for fly fishing, with spacious casting decks and clean interiors. Belize Permit Club has loaner rods and reels available for guests that need them. However, we encourage anglers to bring their own gear that they know and are comfortable with. Flies, leaders, tippet, and other terminal tackle are provided if necessary.

“If you want to catch a permit this is the place to go. The staff was very friendly and the food was mainly local and very tasty. Yellow dog advertises it as basic accommodations so I was pleased to find that the lodge was so comfortable. That added to the trip but the permit fishing is the reason you’re here. The flats are outstanding and you will get your shots. Many more than I expected. Micheal was an outstanding guide. He knows these flats and will find you fish. He’s calm and helpful, even when you’re not calm. Got my first permit this trip and I’ll be back for more.” – Bob L.
