Description

Multipurpose reels that cover the entire spectrum of fly fishing applications, from tributary trout pursuits to backcountry mangrove patrols. SHIFT comes equipped with Sage's proprietary SCS Drag package, featuring a new and innovative redundant seal system tuned to buck salt or freshwater intrusion. A numbered One Revolution Drag Knob, represented throughout the series, allows for easy and precise adjustment, providing reliable, consistent, and repeatable drag pressure. Quickly select the desired setting for the angling application and  SHIFT into high gear.

Taking its take-charge cue from the versatile SPECTRUM series, the fully machined 6061 aluminum SHIFT blends the best of narrow spool width and large arbor design for the ultimate in easy stacking, ultrafast line pick-up. With a concave spool surface for optimal line capacity and drag-assisting smoothness,  the lightweight SHIFT series is packed with the up-leveled tech you'd expect to find on higher-priced reels.

FAQ

Who Is the Sage SHIFT For?
The Sage SHIFT is built for anglers who want a versatile, fully machined reel that performs equally well on freshwater rivers and light saltwater flats. It fills the gap between Sage's entry-level and flagship reels, offering premium construction and a sealed carbon drag without the premium price tag.

It's an excellent choice for anglers who primarily fish trout but also pursue bass, carp, steelhead, salmon, bonefish, and redfish throughout the year. If you want one reel that can travel from your local river to destination fisheries without compromise, the SHIFT is one of the most well-rounded options in Sage's lineup.

How Good Is the Sage SHIFT Drag System?
The SHIFT features Sage's proven One Revolution Sealed Carbon System (SCS) drag—the same drag technology found throughout much of Sage's premium reel lineup.

The fully sealed carbon drag delivers smooth startup, consistent pressure, and excellent protection from water, sand, and grit. The numbered drag knob with positive detents allows you to return to the same drag setting every time, taking the guesswork out of adjustments whether you're protecting light trout tippets or applying more pressure to a bonefish or steelhead.

Is the Sage SHIFT Suitable for Saltwater?
Yes.

The SHIFT was designed to handle both freshwater and saltwater environments. Its sealed carbon drag and corrosion-resistant construction make it an excellent choice for anglers targeting bonefish, redfish, schoolie striped bass, and other light saltwater species.

How Does the Sage SHIFT Compare to Other Sage Reels?
The SHIFT fills the middle of Sage's reel lineup. It offers fully machined construction and a sealed carbon drag at a price that sits between the Spectrum C and the ENFORCER.

Compared to the Spectrum C, the SHIFT is lighter, stronger, and fully machined rather than die-cast, making it a better choice for anglers who fish frequently or travel regularly.

Compared to the TROUT, the SHIFT is a more versatile, modern reel. The TROUT emphasizes classic styling and balance, while the SHIFT is designed to move comfortably between freshwater and light saltwater applications.

Compared to the ENFORCER, the SHIFT is intended for trout, bass, carp, steelhead, bonefish, and redfish rather than heavy-duty saltwater species. Anglers chasing tarpon, giant trevally, or other fish that demand maximum drag pressure will be better served by the ENFORCER.

What Are the Downsides of the Sage SHIFT?
The SHIFT is intended to occupy a few spaces, which not all anglers need.

If you're looking for the most affordable Sage reel, the Spectrum C delivers excellent performance at a lower price. On the other hand, anglers who regularly pursue large saltwater species may appreciate the additional drag power and ruggedness of the ENFORCER.

For dedicated trout anglers, the SHIFT may also be more reel than necessary. While the sealed drag and fully machined construction are excellent features, many trout anglers can accomplish the same tasks with a simpler, less expensive reel.

With that said, if you want a reel that can comfortably crossover from fishery to fishery and accommodate targeting all walks of species capably, it offers great value.

Warranty

Every new Sage rod and reel purchased through an authorized dealer is covered by our original owner warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

This warranty is limited to repair and replacement of the rod or reel and does not cover direct, indirect, consequential, incidental, or any other type of damage resulting from the use of the product. This warranty does not cover misuse, neglect, normal wear, fire, theft, missing/lost rod sections, intentional breakage, modification or customization of the finished rod. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state.

Sage reserves the right to determine whether to repair or replace any Sage product covered by this warranty and the right to replace any discontinued models with comparable models when necessary. Colors and components may vary between original and replacement parts.

The original owner warranty against defects in materials and workmanship applies to rods with a serial # beginning with the letter "A" and higher, including all double letters (i.e., AA, AB, and AC). One exception is the rods manufactured with a serial number Q, R, S, or T. These rods carry an unconditional, original owner lifetime warranty.

Should breakage occur outside of warranty coverage (when it's not the result of material defects or workmanship), a repair or replacement can be processed for a fee. Some items are no longer repairable. In these situations, Far Bank will contact you with alternative options once our technicians have completed their inspection of your item.

To invoke this warranty, the original owner must send the entire Sage product, including broken parts or pieces, freight paid and insured to the Bainbridge Island address provided during the online repair process.
