Description

Scientific Anglers Absolute Saltwater Supreme Fluorocarbon Tippet is a premium 100% fluorocarbon designed for technical flats fishing where strength, stealth, and reliable knots all matter. Its unique two-layer construction combines a softer fluorocarbon exterior with a harder core, allowing knots to seat cleanly while maintaining excellent tensile strength.

The material is also noticeably supple for saltwater fluorocarbon, making it well suited for presenting flies to wary bonefish, permit, redfish, and snook. Available in 10, 12, 16, and 20-pound strengths on 30-meter spools, it's a strong choice for anglers looking for maximum performance without moving to unnecessarily heavy tippet.

Features

  • 100% fluorocarbon for low visibility underwater
  • Two-layer construction combines a softer exterior with a strong fluorocarbon core
  • Up to 33% higher knot strength
  • Supple material helps knots seat properly and improves presentation
  • Excellent strength-to-diameter ratio for technical saltwater fishing
  • 30-meter spools with Scientific Anglers' integrated cutter spool

Size Guide

Strength Advertised Diameter Recommended Applications
10 lb 0.009" Technical bonefish, clear water, small flies, and pressured fish where stealth is the priority.
12 lb 0.010" Excellent all-around bonefish tippet; also useful for lighter redfish and other flats species.
16 lb 0.011" A go-to permit strength; also well suited for larger bonefish, redfish, triggerfish, and clear-water snook.
20 lb 0.013" Larger permit, snook, jacks, triggerfish, heavy redfish, and situations requiring additional strength or abrasion resistance.

FAQ

How does Absolute Saltwater Supreme compare to standard Absolute Saltwater Fluorocarbon?
Supreme uses a two-layer fluorocarbon construction and is both stronger and more supple. For example, SA lists its Supreme 16-pound material at just .011" in diameter, compared with .013" for the standard Absolute Saltwater 16-pound fluorocarbon. Supreme is the better choice when strength-to-diameter ratio and presentation are priorities; standard Absolute remains a good option when you simply need dependable saltwater fluorocarbon at a lower price.

What strength should I use for bonefish?
For most bonefish fishing, 10 or 12 pound is the sweet spot. Ten pound is useful for spooky fish and technical situations, while 12 pound provides additional strength and is a better general-purpose choice. Sixteen pound can make sense for larger bonefish or fisheries with coral, mangroves, or other structure.

What strength should I use for permit?
Sixteen pound is an excellent starting point for most permit fishing, balancing stealth with enough strength to pressure a fish. Twenty pound makes sense for larger fish, heavier flies, or environments where abrasion and structure are greater concerns.

What are the downsides of Absolute Saltwater Supreme?
The biggest drawback is cost. It's a premium fluorocarbon, and anglers who don't need the additional strength-to-diameter ratio may be perfectly well served by standard saltwater fluorocarbon.
