2025 Casa Blanca Trip Report

June 20, 25

Written and Photographed by Program Director Jack Porter

I recently got back from a trip to Casa Blanca Lodge in Ascension Bay, Mexico, and it’s safe to say this place lives up to its reputation. From the moment we stepped off the charter flight, everything felt easy and dialed in. The transfer was smooth and efficient, which meant we could focus on what we came for: fishing some of the most beautiful and diverse water in the world.

Ascension Bay is a truly special fishery. Even with some challenging wind during our stay, the variety of water types—shallow white sand flats, winding mangrove channels, hidden lagoons, and island structures—gave us plenty of options. The guides at Casa Blanca were excellent, always finding protected spots where the fish were active and the conditions were manageable.

We had solid fishing for bonefish and tarpon, with consistent shots each day and a few memorable eats that kept the adrenaline pumping. We also saw some permit, which added a nice dose of excitement, though none of them came to hand this time. Just seeing those fish tailing and cruising the flats is enough to get your heart racing—catching one is just the icing on the cake.

The bay itself is breathtaking. Every day out on the water brought something different—whether it was gliding across glassy lagoons at sunrise, poling along vibrant flats, or exploring winding mangrove creeks. The wildlife is just as impressive as the fish, with dolphins, rays, sea turtles, and birds constantly reminding you how rich and wild this place is.

Back at the lodge, everything was top-notch. Casa Blanca is beautifully located, with comfortable accommodations, excellent food, and a warm, professional staff that made us feel at home from day one. The meals were fresh and delicious, and the service was consistently thoughtful without being overbearing.

Even with the wind, it was an unforgettable trip. Between the diverse fishery, the natural beauty of Ascension Bay, and the high-level operation at Casa Blanca, it’s hard not to start thinking about when to go back—even before you’ve left.
