7 DAYS IN THE BOB MARSHALL WILDERNESS: PART 2

May 03, 23

[ PART 2 ] 7 DAYS IN THE BOB MARSHALL WILDERNESS SOUTH FORK OF THE FLATHEAD RIVER

The South Fork of the Flathead is known in the fly fishing world as the Mecca for dry-fly cutthroat fishing, running through the 1.5 million acre Bob Marshall Wilderness, America’s first-ever designated wilderness area.

Yellow Dog has partnered with one of the top experts on this fishery to offer anglers a one-week trip that completely transects the wilderness area from south to north, right through the deepest, most remote area of “The Bob” :: PART 2 ::Jim Klug reporting from a recent adventure to the South Fork of the Flathead River in Montana's Bob Marshall Wilderness.

DAY FOUR Another fantastic day on the water, with a few more bull tort landed and more cutthroat than we can count. Great campsites and amazing stars in the middle of the untouched wilderness. One small feeder stream held a number of 24"-34" bull trout. Two of them fell for Tom Gagnon's killer string leech pattern.

DAY FIVE South Fork of the Flathead River in Montana's Bob Marshall Wilderness. The trip is winding to a close as we continue downriver. The amazing thing about this float on the Flathead is that the scenery is even more incredible the further we head downriver! The canyon, water clarity and the wilderness are truly amazing.

DAY SIX The trip has come to an end, with 45 river miles behind us, a handful of beautiful native bull trout, great camp locations and late-night campfires, and more cutthroat than we can possibly count. Hard to believe that this amazing wilderness resource and this incredible fishery are located right here in the middle of Montana.
