ACTION ALERT | SAVE THE SMITH RIVER

May 03, 23

ACTION ALERT | SAVE THE SMITH RIVER CONTACT GOV. BULLOCK SAY NO PROPOSED BLACK BUTTE MINE

Smith River Named The #4 Most Endangered River In America

Please contact Gov. Bullock about the proposed Black Butte mine! NOW is the time to act on behalf of the Smith River, an iconic fishery that is #4 on American Rivers' list of endangered rivers. Click on the link to send a letter to Gov. Bullock urging him not to allow a copper mine near this pristine waterway.

The Smith River is threatened by a massive proposed copper mine along Sheep Creek, one of its major headwaters tributaries. If the mine is built, it has a significant potential to degrade the Smith’s water quality and harm its nationally-renowned wild trout fishery through acid mine drainage, contamination with toxic heavy metals, and nutrient pollution. Not only is the Smith one of the most cherished rivers in Montana, but it also generates $4.5 million annually for outfitters and surrounding communities who play host to thousands of recreationists. + Newspaper
