A fantastic overall booking, lodging, and fishing experience for Yellow Dog traveler Kyle W. at Sea Dreams in Caye Caulker, Belize. Read his thoughts below:
Did you find the trip booking process through Yellow Dog enjoyable and useful? If not, please share why.
- The process was excellent. The Yellow Dog staff made it very simple, with clear communication and quick responses to questions.
Were the Yellow Dog pre-trip planning packet(s) and travel itinerary you received for your trip helpful and accurate? If not, how could it be improved?
- Extremely helpful! Between the packet and the YouTube videos, most of my questions were addressed.
Did the lodging (rooms, dining area, social area, etc) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- The lodging was very good. Rooms were clean and well stocked with necessities and all other areas were great.
Did the food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- The food, drinks, and service was excellent.
Do you have any comments or constructive feedback based on the service, friendliness, etc of the lodge staff?
The staff could not have been better. By the end of our first day, the entire staff knew our names. They were extremely friendly and welcoming and were fun to be around.
Were you pleased with your guide(s) customer service, communication skills, professionalism, work ethic, and general fishing knowledge? If not, please share why.
- Our guide was Eloy Badillo. I have fished with many guides, and Eloy is one of the absolute best! He is extremely friendly, personable and professional and passionate about fishing. He is very knowledgeable and worked his tail off to put us on fish every day. We had a boat motor failure early one afternoon. After we got a tow back to the dock, Eloy got the motor repaired, came back and picked us up, and took us back out on the water for extra time. I can't say enough good things about Eloy. He made the trip incredible!
What key piece(s) of gear, tackle, flies, soft goods, etc. made your trip successful?
- With the help of Matt Kelsic and the planning packet, we were well prepared, so we had everything we needed. With that being said, Sea Dreams has next to no inventory, so if you don't bring it, you are out of luck. They had no leaders, no tippet and only a few bonefish flies. We were well warned that supplies would be limited, so all was good for us, but I was a little surprised that they had basically nothing. No criticism directed towards Sea Dreams, the place is fantastic.
What piece(s) of equipment would you not leave home without for this trip?
- An intermediate line for tarpon, which was recommended by Matt. This line was key to getting into the tarpon, and we got into A LOT. A floating or even sink tip were not cutting it with the wind conditions we had. 40# and #60 fluorocarbon tippet spools. Again, with no equipment being available at Sea Dreams, you have to take everything, but we were told this beforehand.
Would you return to this destination? Please share why or why not.
- We absolutely hope to return.
