A wonderful trip to Aniak River Lodge for Yellow Dog traveler Samuel R.!
Did you find the trip booking process through Yellow Dog enjoyable and useful? If not, please share why.
- Enjoyable, easy, and very helpful.
Were the Yellow Dog pre-trip planning packet(s) and travel itinerary you received for your trip helpful and accurate? If not, how could it be improved?
- They were! For me they were fun to look through, for my father they were very helpful in aiding him towards gear and expectations for his first destination fly fishing adventure.
Did the lodging (rooms, dining area, social area, etc) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- The ARL is as advertised. It’s comfortable and still a bit rugged which was perfect.
Did the food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
R. Food was exceptional and the camp cook was a wizard.
Were you pleased with your guide(s) customer service, communication skills, professionalism, work ethic, and general fishing knowledge? If not, please share why.
- Very pleased. Ludi said he’d put his guides against any group in the world and I agree. My dad was basically a complete novice and the level of patience and instruction he received was so impressive. And he laid into ‘em to boot!
What key piece(s) of gear, tackle, flies, soft goods, etc. made your trip successful?
- Dry gear. Our gortex fishing jackets were worn everyday. If you couldn’t stay dry or warm up your hands you’d be a pretty miserable angler.
What piece(s) of equipment would you not leave home without for this trip?
- Dry gear. Good waders, boots, and jacket.
Would you return to this destination? Please share why or why not.
- 1000% take me back now please.
About the Lodge:
Aniak River Lodge is located in Western Alaska in the Kuskokwim River drainage. A main tributary to the Kuskokwim, the Aniak River is home to 10 different species of fish that are all targetable on the fly, and Aniak River Lodge is perfectly situated to allow easy access to all of them. Anglers will fly from Anchorage to the small town of Aniak where they will be met by the lodge staff. Being the only lodge on the river, Aniak River Lodge has exclusive access to nearly 60 miles of pristine river and tributaries making this an extraordinary angling experience. For any mouse lover or anglers looking for diversity, this is an exceptional fishery right up your alley!
