A great experience at Alaska's Bear Trail Lodge for Tom T. -- Read his thoughts below:
Did you find the trip booking process through Yellow Dog enjoyable and useful? If not, please share why.
- We initially contacted three brokers, including YD. You all were by far the best. Worked to understand our specific needs and then identified best lodge options. Overall communication/responsiveness was excellent.
Did the lodging (rooms, dining area, social area, etc) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- Bear Trail vastly exceeded expectations.
Did the food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- Excellent, exceeded expectations.
Do you have any comments or constructive feedback based on the service, friendliness, etc of the lodge staff?
- Wonderful people--we heartily recommend!
Were you pleased with your guide(s) customer service, communication skills, professionalism, work ethic, and general fishing knowledge? If not, please share why.
- Yes, excellent.
What key piece(s) of gear, tackle, flies, soft goods, etc. made your trip successful?
- They supplied everything---which we needed.
What piece(s) of equipment would you not leave home without for this trip?
- Waterproof backpack---for hiking, floating.
Would you return to this destination? Please share why or why not.
- Yes for many reasons: location/ease of getting there, quality of lodge/staff/guides, access to variety of fishing experiences. We did NOT understand that fog could keep us from flying out to remote locations--and that the local river fishing was very poor. We missed at least two days because of weather, which was a negative surprise (and apparently common).
About the Lodge: Bear Trail Lodge is located on the banks of the crystal-clear Naknek River, a fishery that was recently named the “Number One Rainbow Trout River in Alaska” by Fish Alaska Magazine. This amazing river is home to all five species of Pacific salmon as well as some of the largest rainbow trout in the world. Seriously … these guys have some of the LARGEST rainbow trout in the world!
Bear Trail Lodge consists of a very comfortable and inviting Main Lodge complete with a commercial kitchen, large dining room, relaxing living room, full bar area, a hot tub, and several large decks that overlook the river. Each of the Lodge’s guest cabins are well-appointed with queen beds, private bathrooms, individual heaters, and comfortable couches. A boardwalk connects the entire Lodge elevated 70 feet above the river, providing guests with the opportunity to relax and enjoy the views while reflecting on the adventures of the day.
