CHRISTMAS ISLAND HOSTED TRIP REPORT With Camille Egdorf
This past May, Yellow Dog’s Camille Egdorf hosted a group of anglers to the highly esteemed and sought after, Kirimati, or Christmas Island. For those unfamiliar, Christmas Island is the world’s largest coral atoll and is among some of the best bone fishing destinations on the planet.Nestled in the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean, Christmas Island is undoubtedly a fly fisher’s dream and will leave you with nothing but the captivating taste of fishing saltwater forever. Each day anglers woke up to the sun cresting the horizon with the smell of hot coffee permeating through the lodge. After a hot breakfast and a quick drive to the marina, the group spent the day walking the various flats throughout the atoll and capitalizing on the endless opportunities at bonefish, trevally, triggerfish and several other unique species.
The group as a whole caught 23 different species throughout the 6 days of fishing. Ikari House provided great accommodations, a friendly staff and experienced guides who worked hard every day. The group enjoyed an overnight camping trip to the Korean Wreck located on the far end of the island where they had numerous opportunities at large bonefish, Giant Trevally and Milkfish.
