Yellow Dog client Brian I. traveled to Guatemala's Pacific Fins Resort and had an epic fishing and lodge experience. Read his comments below:Â
Did you find the trip booking process through Yellow Dog enjoyable and useful? If not, please share why.
- It was! Kristen gave me great advice, especially in regard to picking the best lodge for us. Pacific Fins was fantastic from pick up to drop off. Can’t wait to get back.
Were the Yellow Dog pre-trip planning packet(s) and travel itinerary you received for your trip helpful and accurate? If not, how could it be improved?
- It was! Everything was spot on, but it’s also an easy trip to prep for because you can literally show up with nothing but your clothes.
Did the lodging (rooms, dining area, social area, etc) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
-Â It was wonderful! The rooms were clean with great AC, beds were very comfortable, the food was outstanding, and the bar had everything you need. We loved hanging out there after a day of fishing.
Did the food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- All was fantastic! The breakfast had lots of variety, and some great coffee. The dinners were always fresh fish (they had other stuff, but I couldn’t say no to tuna) with awesome appetizers. What surprised me, though, were how fantastic the boat lunches were! Fresh mahi mahi tacos, excellent burgers, etc. The guys on the boat know how to cook!
Do you have any comments or constructive feedback based on the service, friendliness, etc of the lodge staff?
-Â The staff were wonderful. Attentive to anything we needed, friendly, and really just fun to hang out with. Makes us want to visit again.
Were you pleased with your guide(s) customer service, communication skills, professionalism, work ethic, and general fishing knowledge? If not, please share why.
-Â Oh goodness, yes! The crew of Maverick was first class. Serious when they had to be but still joked around. Found fish every day, and taught me the ropes of sailfish on the fly. We only want to fish with them in the future!
What key piece(s) of gear, tackle, flies, soft goods, etc. made your trip successful?
- Honestly, long sleeved sun clothing. There’s shade on the boat, but you’re still in the sun a lot when the fishing is on. My buddy got pretty crispy, but having the sun gear protection helped me a ton.
What piece(s) of equipment would you not leave home without for this trip?
-Â Fishing wise I only use Seigler reels and they held up beautifully. Will always bring them. Non-fishing - bug spray for the evening. They had Off! so not a big deal. But we had rain all three nights and the mosquitos were out in full force. If you have a brand you like, bring it!
Would you return to this destination? Please share why or why not.
- 100% yes. In fact, my buddy and I plan to go here yearly. I can’t lie, sailfish were not at the top of my list, but man are they fantastic. The eat is insane, the run is ridiculous, and their aerial show is incredible. I’m not sure if this is a popular YD destination, but it should be. I loved every second and cannot wait to return!
