Yellow Dog traveler James K. offered some great reflections on his recent trip to Premier Lodge Partner Grand Slam Lodge in Ascension Bay. Read his thoughts below:
Did you find the trip booking process through Yellow Dog enjoyable and useful? If not, please share why.
- Sam, Tom, and the staff were very informative and patient throughout the entire planning process. If you are going to book a flyfishing trip, Yellow Dog should be your first choice!
Were the Yellow Dog pre-trip planning packet(s) and travel itinerary you received for your trip helpful and accurate? If not, how could it be improved?
- Yes, the documents were extremely helpful. One suggestion is to get the docs out to anglers a bit earlier for planning purposes if at all possible.
Did the lodging (rooms, dining area, social area, etc) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- The lodging was exceptional. The rooms were large and clean with modern appointments.
Did the food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- The food was absolutely outstanding.
Do you have any comments or constructive feedback based on the service, friendliness, etc of the lodge staff?
- The service was excellent. All was good!
What key piece(s) of gear, tackle, flies, soft goods, etc. made your trip successful?
- I used all of my rods-- 8, 9, 10, and 11 weights. The patos crab fly was highly successful for permit. It also seemed to be the most popular with all of the guides. The strong arm crab was number 2. The spawning shimp fly was the go to for bones. A permit ate it too!
What piece(s) of equipment would you not leave home without for this trip?
- It was all necessary. In the summer months, you need good mosquito repellent! The bugs can be thick in the mangroves. A Yeti rambler mug was great for taking coffee on the boat in the mornings, too.
Would you return to this destination? Please share why or why not.
- Yes, absolutely! I loved my experience at Grand Slam Lodge. The overall experience was excellent. The food, lodging, service, and of course fishing were outstanding! Vittorio and Manuel were terrific hosts.
