June 2026 Belize River Lodge Client Trip Recap

June 30, 26

An excellent all around trip for Andrew E. at Belize River Lodge -- one of our favorite options for anglers looking for a quick and easy to reach saltwater destination!

Did you find the trip booking process through Yellow Dog enjoyable and useful? If not, please share why.
- Yes, it was easy to navigate.

Were the Yellow Dog pre-trip planning packet(s) and travel itinerary you received for your trip helpful and accurate? If not, how could it be improved?
- In general, yes it was accurate and helpful. I cross-referenced it with info from the lodge's website to really narrow things down.

Did the lodging (rooms, dining area, social area, etc) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- Yes, it probably slightly exceeded my expectations.

Did the food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- The food was excellent and exceeded expectations.

Do you have any comments or constructive feedback based on the service, friendliness, etc of the lodge staff?
- The staff and owners of the lodge were very nice and mixed well with the guests. There is a real family feel at BRL.

Were you pleased with your guide(s) customer service, communication skills, professionalism, work ethic, and general fishing knowledge? If not, please share why.
- Yes, all guides were knowledgeable and professional. They worked hard for the anglers and were a solid group.

What key piece(s) of gear, tackle, flies, soft goods, etc. made your trip successful?
- Half and half clousers (chartreuse and white) were probably the top choice for snook and small tarpon. I was really glad I had my 10 weight for those species as well. Next time I will bring more sinking and/or sink tip lines. I had an intermediate 11 weight line, but the tarpon were deep and heavier lines were necessary. Fortunately my guide on the day we targeted tarpon had a couple of extra reels with sinking lines that he loaned me.

Would you return to this destination? Please share why or why not.
- Yes. I liked the people at the lodge, the food, the setting, and the guides. I also liked its proximity to the airport, which made things very easy. The variety of fish and water was also great. We fished flats, rivers, lagoons, and offshore. I caught jacks, tarpon, snook, bonefish, and barracudas. I had shots at permit, but they didn't cooperate.

About the Lodge: Belize River Lodge is a legendary, world-class fishing lodge that has been in continuous operation since 1960. Originally opened as Barothy’s Caribbean Lodge Ltd., it was the first fishing lodge in all of Belize. Today, the lodge is still going strong, offering anglers easy access to several rivers, creeks, the Barrier Reef, and the area’s vast offshore system of flats and mangrove cays. It is without a doubt one of the top tarpon fishing destinations in Belize, offering anglers consistent tarpon action as well as shots at bonefish, permit, snook, and more.
