Another wonderful experience at Turneffe Flats Lodge for our travelers! Julie P. and here husband would absolutely return--read her thoughts below:
Did you find the trip booking process through Yellow Dog enjoyable and useful? If not, please share why.
- Very easy, great information for trip planning
Were the Yellow Dog pre-trip planning packet(s) and travel itinerary you received for your trip helpful and accurate? If not, how could it be improved?
- Yes, very helpful
Did the lodging (rooms, dining area, social area, etc) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- The lodging exceeded our expectations. The room was comfortable, well laid out for fishing gear, unpacking, hang ups. Great bathroom and shower. The dining area was super. The pool was very nice but there was hardly time to enjoy it. The gathering up at the end of the fishing was one of my favorite parts. What a fabulous collection of people from all over. Listening to their other many fishing adventures and learning about their lives in different parts of the country/world was fascinating and very informative. We were in the unit farthest from the dining/social area and closest to the wooded area. That is apparently where the crocodile(s) live. My husband and I went shining for them after dinner one night and there they were out in the water. Amazing. I got a pretty cool picture of crocodile tracks the next morning. One other thing I noticed was that the collection of anglers was something of a cut above some that I have been with in the past. These guys were having fun no doubt and were glad to get away from the everyday, but they were all experienced anglers and gentlemen who truly love the sport. I have been in situations in the past where angler behavior was not like this.
Did the food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- The food was super. The appetizers at cocktail time were delicious as well. No constructive feedback here. They are doing it well.
Do you have any comments or constructive feedback based on the service, friendliness, etc of the lodge staff?
- Every staff member I encountered was pleasant and seemed genuinely happy to be there. All of them.
Were you pleased with your guide(s) customer service, communication skills, professionalism, work ethic, and general fishing knowledge? If not, please share why.
- Our guide, Daniel, was great. I asked for patience and that is exactly what we got. He was exceedingly patient with my difficulty managing the strike. He also probably felt he had drawn the short straw as he became my walking staff while wading. I had my hand on his right shoulder for three days which kept me from falling in the coral and shell bottom. The same thing I did with Con at Clonanav. I am working to get stronger but as of now both these guys give Yellow Dog a good rep for dealing with people with physical challenges. Daniel's knowledge and recommendations were very helpful. And, I caught an 8 lb bonefish, too. That was pretty great.
What key piece(s) of gear, tackle, flies, soft goods, etc. made your trip successful?
- Wading boots for me. I had never used them before. I have big clunky boots for my waders but not the lighter bootie style.
What piece(s) of equipment would you not leave home without for this trip?
- Same thing. I would add bug spray. Everything about Turneffe Flats was better than advertised but the mosquitoes were pretty bad.
Would you return to this destination? Please share why or why not.
- We would definitely return.
