Experience the Diversity of Fly Fishing in Patagonia
Martin Pescador’s incredibly diverse program gives anglers the opportunity to fish twelve world-class rivers, eight lakes, and numerous streams throughout the region for rainbow and brown trout, and depending on the time of the season, the occasional salmon or sea-run brown trout. Martin Pescador’s well-trained and experienced guides utilize a combination of jet boats, lake boats, and rafts to ensure access to even the most remote and untouched waters. The program utilizes two carefully placed lodges, Puerto Cardenas Lodge and La Junta Lodges, allowing for flexible and convenient access to famed fly fishing rivers such as the Yelcho, Futaleufu, Palena, Rosselot, Figueroa, Pico, and many other lesser-known waters. A typical week-long stay is split between the two lodges with three days fishing the Lago Yelcho and three days fishing the Rio Rosselot regions, respectively. Adding to the already rich spectrum of fishing and environmental diversity, guests have the option to add a three-day trip extension to complement their standard full-week program at Martin Pescador’s third property, Lago Verde Lodge.

Lodging Details
Puerto Cardenas Lodge
Upon arrival into the region, guests will be picked up at the Santa Barbara airport and driven to Martin Pescador’s riverside property, Puerto Cárdenas Lodge, located near Lago Yelcho. Guests stay and fish from this location for the first half of the week. Each day anglers will either leave the lodge directly by boat to fish Rio Yelcho or Lago Yelcho, or drive a short distance to other fishing opportunities in the immediate area.
La Junta Lodge
Mid-week before your final day of fishing at Puerto Cárdenas, guests pack their belongings before they head out for the day of fishing. After fishing guests and their luggage are transferred to La Junta Lodge which sits on a beautiful location along the Rio Palena where they will stay and fish for the remainder of the week. From this location, anglers will have easy access and the opportunity to fish the Rio Palena, Rio Rosselot, Rio Figueroa, Rio Pico as well as other smaller rivers and lakes in the area.
Lago Verde Lodge
Guests on the extended trip package transfer to this outpost lodge near the Argentine border which sits atop a rocky bluff with panoramic views of the Lago Verde. Each day guests leave by boat directly from the lodge and float or walk wade some of the area’s most scenic waters including Lago Verde, Rio Claro, Rico Pico, and Rio Precioso.
All three of Martin Pescador’s Lodges offer comfortable double occupancy rooms with private bathrooms. Cardenas and La Junta Lodges accommodate up to ten (10) anglers per week and Lago Verde Lodge accommodates up to four (4) anglers for the three-day extension trip.
Food and Beverages
Overseeing guests’ needs at the Lodge is Anna Jansen, a professional chef trained at the Culinary Institute of America. Meals are prepared by Anna and her staff utilizing locally grown produce featured in traditional Chilean and international dishes. During the fishing day, lunches are prepared and served riverside. After fishing, enjoy drinks on the decks overlooking unspoiled views of temperate rain forests and glacier-topped mountains. On the last night of each week, the lodge staff will prepare a traditional Chilean asado of slow-roasted barbecued lamb and local seafood.

General Information
Expert fly fisherman and lodge owner Frans Jansen has used his years of experience in Chilean Patagonia to establish a one-of-a-kind fly fishing program. The lodge employs professional, well-trained, and experienced American guides and utilizes first-class fishing equipment and boats to access the variety of different waters throughout the region. The primary target species are rainbow and brown trout and depending on the time of season occasionally salmon and sea-run brown trout. Anglers can expect to switch techniques often to fish each piece of water most effectively including casting big streamers to the banks, nymphing, and sight fishing for large trout using both large foam patterns and at times small dry flies.
Primary Fisheries
RÃo Yelcho and Lago YelchoÂ
Together, this river and lake encompass the home waters for Martin Pescador’s Puerto Cardenas Lodge. The RÃo Yelcho offers great fishing. Large rainbows cruise the surface, allowing you to sight fish with dry flies. Lago Yelcho can offer fabulous fishing around the reed fields, where large brown and rainbow trout are found cruising and feeding aggressively on large dragonflies and damsels.
RÃo PalenaÂ
The upper section of the river fishes well with a variety of different dry flies and is home to a tremendous number of rainbows and browns. Downriver, the Palena changes character, with classic riffles and runs slowly giving way to log-strewn banks famous for hiding large trophy trout.
Lago RosselotÂ
This magnificent body of water is home to all three species of trout, and the sight-fishing here is unparalleled. The large rainbows living in this lake cruise just below the surface, ready to devour anything that hits the water.
Rio Rosselot
This outflow of Lago Rosselot is an impressive river with equally impressive trout. A large diversity of fishing scenarios on the Rosselot provide anglers with ever-changing conditions and techniques. Popping and skating dry flies, dead-drifting dry/dropper combos, and streamer fishing the banks and shelves can all be fantastic.
Boats and Equipment Required
Equipment includes jet-powered boats, lake boats with outboards, drift boats, rafts with fly fishing frames, catarafts with jet engines, and 4×4 trucks with trailers. The Lodge does have a limited supply of loaner gear, although it is recommended that anglers bring all of their own gear and equipment, including waders and boots.
