Sili-Squid Intruder
Description
The Sili Squid Intruder is a modern steelhead and salmon fly that builds on the traditional intruder style but emphasizes movement above all else. It is typically tied on a shank or tube with a trailing hook, creating a long, flowing profile that moves freely in the water and improves hook-up ratios. What sets this pattern apart is the use of silicone legs, which pulse and undulate even in slow current, giving the fly a squid-like or tentacle-driven appearance that feels alive without needing much speed. The fly is usually constructed in two stations, with a rear section made from materials like marabou or ostrich for flow and a front section that adds bulk and profile, allowing it to appear large without being heavy. This makes it especially effective in cold water or low-visibility conditions, where fish are less aggressive and more responsive to subtle movement. Common color combinations include pink and orange for general steelhead use, as well as black and blue for dirty water, and it is most often fished on a swung presentation with a sink tip, allowing it to move slowly and naturally through the holding water.
