Trip Overview
Hallaniyat Island is one of the most remote and visually striking saltwater fly fishing destinations in the world — a rugged Arabian Sea archipelago located roughly 40 kilometers off the southern coast of Oman where dramatic granite islands, turquoise water, and untouched shorelines create an extraordinary setting for sight fishing. Originally made famous for its giant trevally fishery, Hallaniyat has evolved into a remarkably diverse program offering opportunities for permit, trevally, parrotfish, broomtail wrasse, Omani bream, tuna, billfish, and numerous other inshore and offshore species. What separates this program from many other remote saltwater destinations is the ability to stay directly on Hallaniyat Island itself, eliminating long daily runs and placing anglers immediately in the middle of the action. Combined with custom-built boats, comfortable accommodations, extensive shore-fishing opportunities, and access to one of the most unique marine environments anywhere in the world, Hallaniyat delivers a truly adventurous and highly visual saltwater experience.

Lodging Details
Ocean Active Fly now operates directly from Hallaniyat Island itself, placing anglers in the heart of one of the most remote and productive fisheries in the Arabian Sea. Guests stay at the newly built AB Charters Lodge, designed specifically to support fly fishing operations on the island while providing comfortable accommodations in an otherwise isolated environment.

The lodge features eight double rooms, each with air conditioning and a private ensuite bathroom. Additional amenities include tackle setup and storage areas, indoor dining and entertainment spaces, outdoor Braai/BBQ areas, and chef-prepared meals throughout the stay. The operation remains intentionally small, with a maximum of four anglers and two boats operating at any given time. Located within the historic Hallaniyat settlement, the lodge also provides direct access to the island’s marina and extensive shoreline fishing opportunities.

Food and Beverages
This destination features fully catered accommodations, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner all prepared fresh daily at the lodge by the onsite chef and staff. Breakfast is served each morning alongside coffee and discussions with the guides regarding daily fishing plans and conditions. Lunches are packed and taken onto the boats each day, while dinners are typically enjoyed back at the lodge either in the dining room or outdoors around the BBQ and entertainment area. Water, coffee, tea, and selected cold beverages are included throughout the stay.

Typical Length of Stay
Trips are typically offered as either 3-day or 6-day fishing packages.

The Hallaniyat Islands are among the most remote and visually dramatic areas in Oman, offering rugged coastlines, pristine beaches, marine wildlife, and a rich maritime history. Guests can explore the island settlement, beaches, and surrounding coastline or enjoy the remote desert-island atmosphere between fishing sessions.

How to Get There
Guests fly internationally into Salalah, Oman. Upon arrival, Ocean Active Fly coordinates all transportation, including a two-hour land transfer from Salalah to the fishing town of Hasik followed by a roughly two-hour boat transfer to Hallaniyat Island.

Depending on flight schedules and arrival times, guests may overnight in Hasik before transferring to the island.

Arrival and Departure Details / Times
Most anglers headed to Southern Oman begin their trip by flying into Dubai, UAE, as Dubai International Airport serves as the largest transportation hub in the region. Emirates is the primary international carrier servicing Dubai, though there are several airlines offering onward connections into Oman. For travel to Salalah, we typically recommend Fly Dubai (a subsidiary of Emirates), Air Arabia, and Oman Air, as these airlines provide reliable daily service from both Dubai and Sharjah and offer flexibility for anglers wishing to spend additional time in Dubai before continuing to Oman. Depending on dates and schedules, flights to Salalah may operate either direct from Dubai or via Muscat.

Upon arrival in Salalah, guests are first transferred approximately two hours by road from Salalah to the fishing town of Hasik. For Hallaniyat programs, anglers then continue via an approximately 40-mile boat transfer from Hasik to Hallaniyat Island, a crossing that is completed during daylight hours. Depending on flight schedules and arrival times, guests may overnight in Hasik prior to the island crossing, and those accommodations and transfers are included as part of the package when required. The outfitter coordinates all transfers and transportation throughout the duration of the trip to ensure guests arrive at the proper location at the appropriate time.

Documents Required
Travelers must carry a passport with at least six months validity and a minimum of two blank passport pages. Visa requirements vary by nationality, and travelers should confirm current Oman entry requirements prior to departure.

Travel insurance and Medivac coverage are required for all guests.

General Information
The Hallaniyat Islands are legendary among saltwater anglers and have long been associated with some of the most powerful and diverse sight-fishing opportunities in the Arabian Sea. Located roughly 40 kilometers offshore from Southern Oman’s Dhofar coastline, the archipelago combines remote desert-island scenery with an exceptionally rich marine ecosystem.

Ocean Active Fly has been exploring and developing this fishery for more than two decades, originally gaining worldwide attention for its giant trevally fishing. While GTs remain an iconic target species, the true strength of the fishery lies in its diversity. Anglers can encounter Africanus permit, grunter, parrotfish, Omani bream, broomtail wrasse, numerous trevally species, tuna, billfish, amberjack, and other hard-fighting inshore and offshore species.

One of the major advantages of this operation is that anglers stay directly on Hallaniyat Island itself rather than fishing from a liveaboard or commuting long distances by boat each day. This allows immediate access to productive water, extensive shoreline fishing, and the flexibility to target species both from the boat and on foot around the island’s beaches and structure.

Unlike many fisheries in the region, the Hallaniyat fishery is not tide dependent, allowing guides considerable flexibility in how and where they fish throughout the day. When weather conditions become uncomfortable for running long distances offshore, the operation frequently shifts toward beach and shore-based fishing opportunities around the island. The outfitter has access to trucks that allow guides and anglers to move efficiently throughout the island and access productive shoreline structure, beaches, and protected water.

The season generally runs from September through April, with October through April offering the most stable weather and fishing conditions.

Boats and Equipment
Ocean Active Fly operates custom-built 27-foot center console boats powered by twin 115hp Yamaha four-stroke outboards. Designed specifically for fly fishing in Southern Oman, the boats are capable of effectively fishing both shallow inshore water and offshore environments.

Each boat features bow and stern casting platforms that allow two anglers to fish simultaneously, along with large fuel capacity for long runs, Garmin electronics, Yeti coolers, Seadek flooring, and full safety equipment. The panga-style hull design provides a smooth and stable ride in a wide range of sea conditions.

Loaner rods and reels are available for anglers if needed.

Remember that Yellow Dog’s services are completely free! When you book a trip with Yellow Dog, you never pay more than when you book directly with the lodge or outfitter. All prices listed below are per person and quoted in US dollars.

OMAN TERMS AND CONDITIONS – CANCELLATIONS
For all trips, full payment is required to secure guides and reservations. Yellow Dog strongly recommends that anglers and guests purchase travel insurance for this trip. For all Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures, L.L.C. (YDFA) Oman trip fishing packages, both deposits and final payments are non-refundable inside of 90 days from the scheduled trip date(s) unless a client is replaced. Both deposit and final payment can be transferred to another client for the same (original) dates. Cancellations must be covered by travel insurance. The outfitter reserves the right to cancel a trip due to bad weather conditions and safety issues. If outfitter cancels a trip due to weather, sea state or instructions from authorities this will be done as early as possible and will be confirmed with the client. Outfitter will offer to either provide another suitable date or, failing that, 50% credit for the value of the trip. If neither alternative is suitable no refund will be forthcoming so ensure that travel insurance covers this eventuality. Yellow Dog reserves the right to charge a minimum handling fee of $100.00 per person for date changes after the initial reservation has been made. Receipt of deposit and/or final payment is acknowledgment that registrant has read and accepts the deposit, cancellation, refund and responsibility clauses for these packages.

Payment Terms for All Yellow Dog Trip Bookings  
Unless otherwise noted on your invoice, for all trips less than 90 days out, full payment is required after receipt of the confirmation email to secure guides and reservations. For trips outside of 90 days, a 50% deposit is required upon receipt of confirmation email to confirm your reservations.
