Casa Blanca and Playa Blanca Announce New Energy and Sustainability Commitment

January 30, 26

We’re thrilled to share exciting sustainability news from two of Mexico’s most iconic fly-fishing destinations: Casa Blanca Lodge and Playa Blanca Lodge. Both lodges, nestled within the pristine Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, have taken a major step forward in environmental stewardship with the completion of a cutting-edge solar energy project.

A significant investment of more than USD $2 million has made this photovoltaic solar array fully operational, and it’s now supplying clean, renewable electricity to both Casa Blanca and Playa Blanca. This shift dramatically reduces reliance on diesel generators, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, cutting noise pollution, and strengthening long-term responsible operations in one of the Caribbean’s most sensitive ecosystems.

About the Lodges:

Private and secluded, Casa Blanca sits on the northern tip of a small, coastal island called Isla Punta Pajaros, located in the very most southern waters of Ascension Bay. As the only lodge for miles, Casa Blanca is remote and pristine; as close to “the way it was” as it will ever be. Casa Blanca’s location, cuisine, amenities, staff, and equipment collectively make it a bellwether operation against which we measure all other saltwater lodges.

To the south, Playa Blanca is a remote, private, and secluded fishing lodge that offers the same high-caliber fishing program as its famous sister lodge, Casa Blanca. This is a fishing-focused destination but is perfect for families or couples looking for the ideal private and remote Caribbean getaway. Anglers staying at Playa Blanca have near-exclusive access to both Espiritu Santo Bay and the vast Santa Rosa Lagoon system, home to large numbers of bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook, and other shallow-water species. This area receives very little pressure, making it the ideal destination for anglers who prefer fishing in solitude.

This is an exciting development for these two lodges. By embracing solar power, these remote destinations are not just protecting the unforgettable fishing and scenery that draw anglers from around the globe — they’re also setting a new standard for sustainable tourism in fragile coastal environments.
