In the far Southern reaches of the Yucatan Peninsula sits the small fishing village of Xcalak, home to Costa De Cocos Lodge. We have worked with and represented this operation for years, and we are proud to say that this is one of our favorite “low key” destinations in the entire region. Just returning to work up here in Whitefish and wanted to send you a quick email. My dad and I had an incredible trip to Costa de Cocos (Dec 13-20). We ended up randomly meeting some of the boys from Montana Anglers who were also staying at CDC, which made for a really fun week. Can't seem to get away from MT even when I leave!
I could not have been happier with the experience. The authentic and laid back atmosphere of CDC was exactly what we were looking for and all of the employees made us feel like family. As this was our first trip to the salt, the information from Yellow Dog was invaluable and took all the guesswork out of the trip, from travel arrangements to gear. I simply went through the gear list and when I got there, I felt like I had exactly what I needed.
We learned quickly that fishing in the salt is not an easy thing! However, we had an outstanding guide in Marcos who spoke great English and was able to provide us with clear instructions when he spotted fish. We caught plenty of bones, hooked a few baby tarpon, and had some really good shots at some snook. Although the whole trip was great, the truly special moment came when both my dad and I landed a small permit on the same day. Pretty awe-inspiring, especially for the novice saltwater angler.
We will absolutely return to CDC and plan to utilize Yellow Dog for many trips in the future. Thank you for the great recommendation and for providing such an easy-to-use service.
