Summer is here, meaning the Alaska fishing season is in full swing! David and Marion K. traveled to Riversong Lodge, 70 air miles northwest of Anchorage.
Accessible by floatplane only, Riversong is one of our favorite destinations for a trip to a remote area of Alaska offering great fishing and overall experience. Riversong Lodge can also accommodate multiple lengths of stay based on availability and there is no set schedule for your arrival and departure. While staying at Riversong Lodge, guests will experience the beautiful amenities of the hand-built spruce lodge and the incredible cuisine, while fishing the coastal Yentna River and the more intimate Lake Creek – a tributary in the Alaska Range that has become world-famous for its rainbow trout and salmon fishing opportunities.

Did you find the trip booking process through Yellow Dog enjoyable and useful? If not, please share why.
R. Booking was easy, and we were given a great set of options for different lodges, locations and price ranges.
Were the Yellow Dog pre-trip planning packet(s) and travel itinerary you received for your trip helpful and accurate? If not, how could it be improved?
- Packet was great. We weren't aware that the float plane provider could have picked us up from our hotel, which would have been helpful. Otherwise, everything went very smoothly.
Did the lodging (rooms, dining area, social area, etc) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- Walter and Lisa were wonderful hosts, and made us feel very welcome. They both went out of their way to make our visit special, and we loved meeting their family as well.
Did the food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) match what you were expecting? If not, please provide additional comments or constructive feedback.
- The food was great, particularly the fresh salads and deserts.
Do you have any comments or constructive feedback based on the service, friendliness, etc of the lodge staff?
- The only suggestion would be to raise the temperature in the lodge - we were there during a cold spell, and it took a while to heat up the lodge areas and our cabin.
Were you pleased with your guide(s) customer service, communication skills, professionalism, work ethic, and general fishing knowledge? If not, please share why.
- Definitely. Walter spent a lot of time with us on the water, and was very informative on different approaches to fishing the area. We also spent time with the other guides, and found them to be knowledgeable and good fun.
What key piece(s) of gear, tackle, flies, soft goods, etc. made your trip successful?
- I particularly enjoyed fly fishing with a mouse patterned fly, first time I've ever had that experience.
What piece(s) of equipment would you not leave home without for this trip?
- Long underwear, and both rain and warm coats. Weather in AK is unpredictable.
Would you return to this destination? Please share why or why not.
- Yes, Walter and Lisa were terrific hosts, and the trout fishing was great. They made us feel at home and part of the family. We'd love to come back later in the season for salmon.
