Trout Flies

Trout feed on a wide range of insects, crustaceans, and baitfish. Trout flies are tied to imitate aquatic insects (mayflies, caddis, stoneflies, midges), terrestrials (ants, beetles, hoppers), and streamers (baitfish, leeches, sculpins). The diversity of food sources is why trout flies cover more categories than almost any other species.

Trout flies range widely—from tiny size 20–26 midges to size 4–6 streamers. The right size depends on the local hatch, water type, and fish behavior.
