Isolated and Intimate Fishing Operation
A remote and very private small lodge operation located on the narrows between Grosvenor Lake and Colville Lake, Grosvenor Lodge is an intimate fishing operation that accommodates a maximum of only six anglers per week. Guests can expect total seclusion, comfortable accommodations, and excellent fishing for rainbow trout, char, lake trout, northern pike, and sockeye salmon, as the “home waters” of Grosvenor, remain almost completely untouched by other area fishing operations. As an overall Alaskan destination, this lodge is truly a place you can call your own – isolated in the wilderness with great do-it-yourself fishing, incredible views, and extensive wildlife.
Accommodating only six guests at a time, Grosvenor truly provides the “it feels like my own fishing lodge” experience. This is a small and very remote lodge operation that is ideal for families, business associates, or a group of fishing buddies. Guests are accommodated in three double-occupancy guest cabins that are outfitted with heaters and electricity. A completely modern bathhouse is situated right next to the cabins. The kitchen and dining area feature a great view of Grosvenor Lake. The small Main Lodge houses the lounging area and bar, where complimentary cocktails are served each evening. A personable and experienced staff, comfortable accommodations, and excellent fishing assure you a memorable Alaskan fishing experience.
Food and Beverages
All meals for your group are prepared by the camp chef. The menu is very diverse. Please let us know prior to your trip if you or anyone in your party have any dietary requests. The Lodge will do their best to accommodate those requests. All meals are typically taken in the main kitchen and dining area, although lunches can be packed for full days on the water.
Typical Length of Stay
A standard stay is a seven (7) nights / seven (7) fishing days package, although there are four (4) nights / four (4) fishing days and three (3) nights / three (3) fishing days packages available. Transfer days are Wednesdays and Sundays. Please call Yellow Dog for more details.
Non-Angling Activities and Options
Grosvenor Lodge has a fantastic sister lodge located on the nearby Brooks River, meaning that day trips for what may be the best bear-viewing in the region are easily arranged. There are also day trips to the “Valley of 10,000 Smokes” and other area attractions. While at Grosvenor, wildlife viewing opportunities abound, so we strongly recommend you bring your camera or video equipment, binoculars, plenty of memory cards, and batteries.
Internet / Communications
Internet access is not available at the lodge. Cell phones will also not work during your visit to the lodge.
How To Get There
Your trip starts upon arrival into Anchorage’s Ted Stevens International Airport (ANC). Several major airlines serve Alaska from the Lower 48 with connections directly to Anchorage.
Arrival and Departure Details / Times
In Anchorage, you will begin your trip at the Katmai Air offices and hanger near the Anchorage International Airport (ANC). There you will board a wheeled Navajo Chieftain for the flight from Anchorage to Kulik Lodge. At Kulik you will transfer to a floatplane then will deliver you to Grosvenor.
Photo identification is required by airlines and to purchase your Alaska Fishing License. Licenses can be purchased on the first day of your trip, or online prior to your trip, by visiting this website: Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
Yellow Dog works directly with and recommends Kanna Travel. They can assist with airline tickets, hotels, transfers, and all travel logistics for every destination that we offer. Contact them at 855-739-3139 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more details on airfare ticketing, travel services, and trip insurance.
Since the Lodge is located in an area unfrequented by others, anglers have, more or less, private access to the wide-open fishing in the lake system and the narrows right out the front door. The lake system boasts one of the largest sockeye salmon runs in the world, which in turn provides food and nutrients for the area’s abundant rainbow trout population. All the feeder streams, and especially the narrows directly in front of the lodge, receive a tremendous run of salmon smolt which attracts large concentrations of fish to the mouths of these areas. By nature of its isolated location, Grosvenor can provide an amazingly quaint and exclusive Alaskan experience without using floatplanes on a daily basis and without sharing the area waters with other anglers. This is an ideal location for groups of friends or family, as six anglers can guarantee the Lodge to themselves. Area fishing includes day trips over to Lower American Creek, fishing the narrows directly in front of the Lodge, and numerous streams and creeks in close proximity to the Lodge. You can also arrange daily fly-outs to some of the best rivers in the regions, including the Kulik, Moraine, Funnel, Brooks, and others.
Boats and Equipment
Bristol Adventures, the operations company that runs Grosvenor Lodge, has a fleet of floatplane aircraft at their disposal, allowing anglers to access dozens of fisheries throughout the region based on the fishing conditions each day. Fly-outs can also be set up on a day-to-day basis and arranged directly at the lodge. Two Pilatus PC-12’s on wheels provide round-trip transportation from Anchorage to King Salmon, and then guests will fly via floatplane directly to Grosvenor. It is recommended that anglers bring their own gear including rods, reels, waders, and wading boots if they prefer to use their own gear. If you would rather use the Lodge’s gear, however, they do provide high-quality rods, reels, waders, and boots at no additional charge. Grosvenor Lodge and the guides also provide all flies and terminal tackle during your stay.
