Description

Designed as a bullet proof workhorse for your stable of reels, with everything you need and nothing you don’t—turn off your smart phone, check your knots and get to work.

Designing Centerfire, we drew from the strongest and most reliable elements from over a quarter century of fly reel production. The frame incorporates our proprietary—IPX8 waterproof rated—Cobalt drag system, burly Power Arm construction and load path reinforcement. The spool maximizes capacity and line retrieval with plenty of porting to dry out after a big day. Add a large fluted drag knob, oversized handle and hard anodize and you can be sure this reel will only clock out when you do.

Features

  • IPX8 waterproof-rated Cobalt drag system built for demanding saltwater use
  • Large-format drag cone provides a broad drag range and plenty of stopping power
  • Fully CNC-machined frame and spool with hard-anodized finish
  • Signature Power Arm frame with load-path reinforcement for added rigidity
  • Large-arbor spool provides fast line pickup and generous backing capacity
  • Zero-lash stainless steel roller clutch for smooth, immediate drag engagement
  • Oversized drag knob and handle are easy to operate during a fight
  • Ported spool helps reduce weight and allows backing and fly line to dry

FAQ

Who Is the Lamson Centerfire For?
The Centerfire is for anglers who want a durable, high-capacity reel for serious saltwater and big-game fishing without moving into the price range of some premium saltwater reels.

Is the Lamson Centerfire Drag Fully Sealed?
Yes. The Centerfire uses Lamson's Cobalt hybrid drag, which carries an IPX8 waterproof rating. The system uses a fixed spindle, self-lubricating O-ring seals, carbon PEEK thrust washers, and a large-format drag cone to keep water and debris out while providing the stopping power needed for large fish.

How Does the Centerfire Compare to Other Lamson Reels?
The Centerfire sits in the middle of Lamson’s dedicated saltwater lineup, between the more value-oriented Liquid Max and the lighter, more specialized Litespeed M and Hyperspeed M. Unlike most of Lamson’s freshwater and all-water reels, the Centerfire uses the larger IPX8-rated Cobalt drag system, which is designed specifically for saltwater, big fish, and hard use.

Compared with the Liquid Max, the Centerfire is the more refined option, with a fully CNC-machined frame and spool, Power Arm construction, and a more premium overall build. The Liquid Max is the better choice when price is the priority, while the Centerfire makes sense for anglers who regularly travel and want a machined reel built specifically around demanding saltwater use.

Moving up to the Litespeed M or Hyperspeed M gets you into reels that place greater emphasis on reducing weight and increasing retrieval speed. The Hyperspeed M, in particular, uses an oversized arbor to maximize line pickup while maintaining a high strength-to-weight ratio. The Centerfire is less specialized: its focus is straightforward durability, generous backing capacity, a powerful sealed drag, and a conventional large-arbor design.

For most anglers, that makes the choice fairly simple: Liquid Max for value, Centerfire for a durable machined saltwater workhorse, and Litespeed M or Hyperspeed M when lower weight and faster line retrieval justify the additional cost.
