FAQ
Who Is the Lamson Liquid Max For?
It's a good fit for anglers heading on their first bonefish, permit, tarpon, or redfish trip, guides building multiple outfits, or anyone who wants a good saltwater reel without spending $800-$1,200.
The Liquid Max isn't the lightest reel on the market, nor is it the most refined. But if your priority is having a reliable drag system at a reasonable price, it's easy to understand why the reel has become so popular.
On the flip side, if you regularly saltwater fish or are investing in a remote destination trip where you need the utmost in reliability and durability, there are better options out there.
How Does the Liquid Max Compare to More Expensive Saltwater Reels?
The biggest difference is not drag performance—it's construction.
Many high-end saltwater reels are fully machined from bar-stock aluminum and feature more intricate machining, tighter tolerances, and lighter overall weights. The Liquid Max uses a pressure-cast and machined construction process that allows Lamson to keep costs significantly lower.
What Are the Downsides of the Liquid Max?
The Liquid Max is designed to deliver maximum performance and durability at an aggressive price point. As a result, it lacks some of the lightweight feel, intricate machining, and premium finishes found on reels such as the Hatch Iconic or Nautilus CCF-X2.
