Description
The SL series is the most popular of the Shilton salt water range with a remarkable track record starting from 2002 in the most remote and hostile environments targeting anything from bonefish and tigerfish to marlin and arapaima. The robust design is crafted from solid 6082 T6 high grade bar stock aluminium and features a custom-processed cork drag with enclosed one-way plungers. The range is available in sizes from the SL6 to SL14 for line weights 6 to 14. This is the reel of choice for many large guiding operations due to its simple, robust and “bulletproof” design. The reel has an incoming and outgoing click. The SL range is available in titanium, black, blue, turquoise, purple, red, gold, green, lime, orange or any custom colour combination made up from parts in these colours.

FAQ
Who Is the Shilton SL For?
The SL Series is built for anglers who prioritize reliability above everything else. It has been guiding anglers around the world for more than two decades and has earned a reputation as one of the most dependable big-game reels available.
This reel makes the most sense for anglers targeting bonefish, permit, tarpon, giant trevally, golden dorado, tigerfish, arapaima, and other species where equipment failure simply isn't an option.
What Makes the Shilton SL Different from the SR?
The SL is Shilton's original saltwater platform and has proven itself for over twenty years.
The newer SR features a larger cork drag and increased drag engagement for anglers who want maximum stopping power. The SL, meanwhile, has developed a loyal following because of its simple, bulletproof design and long track record in the field.
Both are exceptional reels, but many guides continue to fish the SL simply because they know exactly what it will do.
What Are the Downsides of the Shilton SL?
The SL prioritizes durability over weight.
Compared to many modern reels, it is heavier and less aggressively ported. The cork drag also requires occasional maintenance, unlike some fully sealed carbon drag systems.
If you're looking for the lightest reel on the market, there are better options. If you're looking for a reel with a two-decade reputation for surviving harsh environments and stopping powerful fish, those tradeoffs are often worth making.
