Description

The Mako 7450 Freshwater brings Mako's saltwater-grade engineering down to a dedicated trout reel, built around a compact 3.5" frame designed by Tom Kapusta. A fully sealed trilobe carbon fiber drag system with 360° drag rotation delivers smooth, consistent pressure through the fight, backed by titanium internal components that keep the reel light without sacrificing strength.

At 6.3 oz, it balances comfortably on 4, 5, and 6 weight rods, and holds 200 yards of 20 lb braided backing plus a 5 weight floating line -- generous capacity for a reel this size. Available in Left or Right hand retrieve, it ships with a neoprene case and is backed by the same standards that define Mako's world-renowned saltwater lineup.

FAQ

Who is the Mako 7450 built for?
The Mako 7450 Freshwater is built for trout anglers who want the same precision and engineering standards behind Mako's world-renowned saltwater reels, scaled down into a lightweight 4-6 weight freshwater package. It's a serious, purpose-built reel for anglers who value drag consistency and build quality over a budget price point.

Why titanium internal components?
Titanium internals give the 7450 a strength-to-weight advantage over standard aluminum or steel components, keeping the reel light on a 4-6 weight rod while holding up to repeated hard use. It's the same design philosophy Mako applies to its saltwater reels, scaled to a freshwater frame.

What makes the trilobe carbon fiber drag system notable?
The 7450 uses a fully sealed trilobe carbon fiber drag system with 360° drag rotation, delivering smooth, consistent pressure through the fight rather than the surging or grabbing you can get from a lower-end drag. At full drag, it produces 3.5+ lbs of stopping power -- plenty for the trout-class fish this reel is built around.

What are the downsides of the Mako 7450?
It's a premium price for a trout-class reel, well above many well-regarded freshwater options. There are cheaper options out there that will still function in most all trout fishing scenarios. This is a reel for someone who values premium machining, emphasis on drag control, and trusts Mako as one of the finest reel manufacturers in the world.
