Description

You’ve traveled half way around the world in pursuit of a fish that will test every single piece of your gear, you shouldn’t have to worry about your fly line failing. With our 65lb. Tropical-core design these lines are designed to perform when it counts.

Features

•    Short, Powerful Head — Loads quickly and turns over big flies at distance.
•    Floating Running Line, Intermediate Head — Easy pickup with a fly that tracks just under the surface.
•    1.25 ips Sink Rate — Keeps the head under surface chop without diving deep.
•    65-lb Tropi-Core — Built specifically for hot, tropical climates and heavy fish pressure.
•    AST Plus Slickness Additive — Reduces friction and extends coating durability.
•    SA Line ID — Printed weight and taper marking directly on the line.
•    Comes with 100lb Braided Add-On Loops — For a strong, secure leader connection.
•    Purpose-Built for GT — Tuned for giant trevally, tarpon, tuna, and billfish.

Rod Pairing

Rod Action Pairing Notes
Fast Action Ideal The short, powerful head is built to load fast bluewater blanks and turn over big flies at every grain class.
Medium-Fast Action Works Well Loads fine within its matched grain range; less punch turning over the heaviest flies.
Slow / Full-Flex Action Not Recommended The short, powerful head overloads a soft blank almost immediately.

Size Guide

Line Weight Grain Wt (30') Species / Technique
WF11 380gr / 24.6g GT, tarpon, and lighter bluewater targets
WF12 450gr / 29.2g Standard GT, big tarpon, tuna, and light billfish work
WF14 450gr / 35.6g For the biggest bluewater targets

FAQ

What are the parts of this line and what does each section do?
This line combines two different behaviors in one system. Running Line: A floating section that shoots through the guides and stays on the surface. Head: A short, 32.5-foot head built in three grain weights (380-450gr), constant in length but built with an intermediate 1.25 ips sink rate -- so while the running line floats, the head itself sinks slowly just under the surface. Front Taper: A short, powerful taper built to turn over big, air-resistant flies with minimal false casting. Tip: The final section where the leader connects; this line ships with 100lb braided add-on loops rather than a pre-welded loop, so the loop is attached separately.

How does the Sonar Titan GT compare to the Amplitude Smooth Titan GT?
Both share the same 65-lb Tropi-Core and AST Plus coating, built for the same GT-class species, but the two behave differently in the water. Sonar Titan GT (reviewed here): A floating running line paired with a short head built at an intermediate 1.25 ips sink rate, so the head rides just under the surface. Offered in three grain classes, 380-450gr, covering 11wt through 13-14wt rods. Amplitude Smooth Titan GT: A fully floating, standard weight-forward taper built one size heavy, with a high-contrast sighter section for tracking the running line on long runs. Offered in two classes, WF11-F and WF12-F only. Choose the Sonar Titan GT when getting the fly just under the surface chop matters. Choose the Amplitude Smooth Titan GT for a fully floating presentation on calmer water or shallow flats.

What is the 65-lb Tropi-Core and why does it matter for GT fishing?
The Tropi-Core is a 65-lb monofilament core, built specifically to withstand the heat of tropical climates and the brute force of a big GT trying to reach coral or structure. A lighter core can stretch, soften, or fail under that kind of sustained pressure in hot water; the 65-lb core is built to hold up to the fight rather than become the weak link.

What is AST Plus and how does it affect casting?
AST Plus is SA's slickness additive, built into the coating to reduce friction through the guides and extend the coating's working life. In practice, that means less resistance shooting a heavy head through the guides and a line that continues to shoot smoothly further into a season rather than losing its slickness after the first few trips.
