Authentic Alaska Sportfishing Experience at Fixed Based Lodge and Tent Cabins
Aniak River Lodge is located in Western Alaska in the Kuskokwim River drainage. The Aniak River which is a main tributary to the Kuskokwim is home to 10 different species of fish that are all targetable on the fly and Aniak River Lodge is perfectly situated to allow easy access to all of them. Anglers will fly from Anchorage to the small town of Aniak where they will be met by the lodge staff. Over the course of the week, anglers will split their time between the main lodge and the tent camp which is about 30 minutes upriver. Being the only lodge on the river, Aniak River Lodge has exclusive access to nearly 60 miles of pristine river and tributaries making this an extraordinary angling experience. For any mouse lover, this is an exceptional fishery right up your alley!
Aniak River Lodge actually has two separate locations on the Aniak. A permanent lodge on the lower river and a temporary tent camp farther upriver. Over the course of 6 days, anglers will experience the best of both worlds when it comes to the comforts of home at the main lodge and the rustic but very comfortable camp living while fishing the upper river. The main lodge has several double occupancy cabins overlooking the Aniak with each having its own private bathroom. Accommodations at the upper camp are in weather-port cabins with wood-framed floors and main dining cook tent. For being in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness, Aniak River Lodge has established two incredibly comfortable yet “rustic” locations where anglers are just steps away from some of the best rainbow trout fishing in Alaska.
Food and Beverages
All meals are cooked on location by a professional chef and kitchen staff. Meals consist of many American favorites in addition to some international dishes and the occasional fresh sheefish caught right from the Aniak. Breakfast is served as a buffet style with lunches being served while on the river with your guide. Hot appetizers are served and ready upon returning from the river each day with dinner to follow promptly at 7 PM. Aniak River Lodge does not provide any alcoholic beverages so it’s highly recommended you purchase your libations in Anchorage and bring them with you on the charter flight. You will not be able to purchase adult beverages in the town of Aniak.
Typical Length of Stay
The typical length of stay is 6 days / 7 nights. Saturday to Saturday itinerary.
Non-Angling Activities and Options
Aniak River Lodge is a dedicated fishing operation as there are very few if any, non-angling options available.
Internet / Communications
Anglers will not have cell service while at Aniak River Lodge. Some internet may be available but guests should expect to be removed from any email and cell phone access during their week. If you must be in contact with home or work, we recommend renting/purchasing a satellite phone.
How To Get There
Anglers need to fly to Anchorage, Alaska the day before to overnight before continuing on to Aniak. The flight from Anchorage to Aniak is through Ravn Air which is roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes and departs at approximately 9:00 AM on Saturday. Upon arrival in Aniak, the lodge staff will greet you at the airport and will drive you to the base lodge where you will have a brief lodge orientation and then load the boats and make your way upriver to the main lodge.
Arrival and Departure Details/Times
It is recommended anglers overnight in Anchorage the day before flying to Aniak the following day.
Photo identification is required by airlines and to purchase your Alaska Fishing License. Licenses should be purchased prior to arriving at the lodge and can be done online by visiting this website: Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
Due to being the only lodge on the Aniak, Aniak River Lodge has exclusive access to nearly 60 miles of pristine rainbow trout habitat. Throughout the week, anglers will access several different sections of river by way of jet boat and cover water by either wading or fishing directly from the boat. Mousing is a very popular tactic on this river as the rainbows are aggressive and rely heavily on the rodent populations for food. The Aniak is also home to a variety of species including sheefish, northern pike, grayling, dolly varden and all 5 species of pacific salmon so there’s plenty of diversity!
Boats and Equipment
Aniak River Lodge utilizes several 14 – 16ft jet boats to navigate the many channels on the Aniak River. If anglers may need to borrow any gear, the lodge does have some available but they highly recommend everyone bring their own.
